What would be, if something happens to Joe Biden now? Who do you think would be Obama’s VP pick for the remainder of his term? Who would get confirmed by the GOP congress?

I think it wouldn’t be someone currently on duty, especially no senator. Dems need every seat they have for 2016. The only exception could be Barbara Boxer (D-CA), who is retiring anyway. The big advantage: Her successor is appointed by a Democratic governor and CA is safe Dem in the next election. Some other names that came to my mind: Jim Webb, Lincoln Chafee, Zell Miller or Ed Rendell. I think they’re acceptable for the GOP for three reasons: relatively low-profile, at the end of their careers and not too much left-wing.

In 2008, at least, the runner-up was Evan Bayh.

I'd be thinking some placeholder low key cabinet member - perhaps Ash Carter.

Someone to keep the seat warm until the next POTUS is inaugurated. Evan Bayh would be an excellent choice, as would a pretty low-level Congressman.

Honestly I don't think Obama would get a new VP. He'd probably nominate an elder statesman placeholder but the GOP wouldn't confirm them anyway
