Take the test from the perspective of what you think the median answer would be in the U.S.

I did and got these interesting but not suprising results:

Economic Left/Right: -0.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.00

proving two things:

1-The test actually is a good measure of where the center is
2-But the graphs of where world leaders and parties are are clearly bullsh**t.

One thing that might skew it is I answered according more how to America ACTS, rather than how most would answer the question. This often is rather different.

I took it from what I believe to be the mainstream American viewpoint and got this:

Economic Left/Right: +0.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: +1.54

Somehow I doubt this one...  I do believe America is slightly more conservative than liberal on a social scale, but this conservative?  Don't forget, John Kerry did get 48% of the vote.

Yes, but only about 60-70% of Kerry voters are socially liberal, at best.  The rest just voted for him because they realized the class/racial war being made upon them by the GOP.  And virtually all Republican voters are social intolerants.

Actually, this is a good point.  Kerry's supporters were hardly united behind the idea of gay marriage (though it should be noted that Kerry opposed gay marriage).  But Americans are a selfish people: they're more socially conservative when it comes to homosexuality, because the majority of them don't realize when they're in contact with gays.  On issues such as abortion and pornography, the liberals have the upper hand, where such matters are of personal convenience to hypocritical social conservatives.

The rest just voted for him because they realized the class/racial war being made upon them by the GOP.  And virtually all Republican voters are social intolerants.
No.  Just no.

Almost perfect. Perhaps a little too, Libertarian- but more accurate than everyone else had so far. I think you guys underestimate the American public and/or have a liberal bias and/or are very cynical (like Opebo)

And here is the most liberal areas of the bay area. Think one of the more liberal neighborhoods of Berkeley,  like the area near Ashby Ave. and MLK or so. Appearantly there was a precinct where Bush only got 3%.

I sincerely doubt that is the average of anwhere in the U.S. - or in the world for that matter. There are only a handful on this board who are that extreme.

That's why I'm talking the most liberal precinct of Berkeley. These seem to be the most liberal.

Precinct 204310:
Kerry 351 (92.1%)
Bush 10 (2.6%)
Cobb 5 (1.3%)
Badnarik 5 (1.3%)
Peltier 3 (0.8%)
Peroutka 0 (0%)
Write-in 6 (1.6%)

Precinct 208310
Kerry 942 (93.2%)
Bush 36 (3.5%)
Cobb 8 (0.8%)
Peltier 7 (0.7%)
Badnarik 2 (0.2%)
Peroutka 2 (0.2%)
Write-in 14 (1.4%)

Precinct 208410
Kerry 878 (92.5%)
Bush 25 (2.6%)
Peltier 14 (1.5%)
Cobb 11 (1.2%)
Badnarik 3 (0.3%)
Peroutka 1 (0.1%)
Write-in 17 (1.8%)

Preinct 208700
Kerry 886 (94.0%)
Bush 19 (2.0%)
Cobb 12 (1.3%)
Peltier 6 (0.6%)
Badnarik 3 (0.3%)
Peroutka 1 (0.1%)
Write-in 16 (1.7%)

Yeah, the last one, 208700 is the winner.  It and some of the other most liberal ones are in district 3 of Berkeley.

Here's 208700 on google maps.

Here's where your typical resident of Montgomery county, Md would stand (it's a very liberal county):

Economic Left/Right: -5.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.54

Here's a 'typical American' which so happens to be a moderate populist:

Economic Left/Right: -1.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.95

Here's your average 'right wingnut':

Economic Left/Right: 5.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.46

Here's George W. Bush (approximately):

Economic Left/Right: 4.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.23

Here I am (i just took it now):

Economic Left/Right: 7.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.21

I've moderated a little...

You people need to realize how Americans actually act is different from how they would answer on a poll. For example, I suspect most of the people who think I was thinking too liberal put down Agree or Strongly Agree for that sex outside of marriage is immoral. But how many Americans do have sex outside of marriage? Similar for the porn question, how many look at porn? And for the question about sending a kid to a school without religion, I put disagree, because most kids do go to public schools.

and here's Minnesota:

Economic Left/Right: -3.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.21

Here's my Bush estimate

8.25 economic, 5.54 social.
Last time I measured, I was +7.3 economic, -0.5 social.  I really don't think Bush is further right economically than me, since he pushed for Medicare drug coverage, NCLB, steel tariffs, etc.

I tried to emulate Bush.  It's hard because you have to decide whether to go with what he personally believes, what he reflects in his policies, or what he would answer if asked at a press conference.  I tried to average the three.  I got +5.88 economic, +4.26 social.
