-after having agreed to freeze its ambitions to build nuclear weapons:

W.T.O. to Start Talks to Admit Iran

By ELAINE SCIOLINO
Published: May 27, 2005

GENEVA, May 26 - The World Trade Organization announced Thursday that it would start talks to admit Iran as a member, a reward for Tehran's agreement to continue to freeze its nuclear activities.

The decision came after the United States, in a small but important conciliatory gesture, dropped its long-standing opposition to Iranian membership in the organization, which governs global trade.

For their sake I hope the Iranians continue the program in secret, if they value their sovereignty.  Especially with the invaders right next door.

Well, at least you're up front about the fact that you're on the side of the Ayatollah.

Iran was on the verge of a major earth-shattering counter-revolution before the hardliners regained control with the Iraq war.

No, I'm not on either side..  I'm just stating what is the rational strategy for the Iranians if they want to avoid being invaded and occupied, like Iraq.  If Poland had nuclear weapons, they could have kept Hitler at bay.

Nice to see Iran enter further the world market. One can only hope that free trade with the world will help drag it to reform.

Yeah, that works so well with China and Saudi Arabia. One of these years they might not get a 7,7 Freedom House rating.

This will only work if Iran agrees to compromise, but that is no guarantee.
