He's a moderate Republican, and a throwback to the days when having a Republican in charge wasn't totally terrifying. He supports infrastructure spending, he does not want to destroy the safety net, he's at least open to the idea of the government playing a role in ensuring universal health insurance coverage, and he's not a crazy belligerent neocon like Marco Rubio. And he's willing to work with Democrats and Republicans to actually accomplish things.

Liberals are short-sighted idiots to be rooting for his defeat when the alternatives are Cruz and Rubio. If you want Medicare and Social Security to be eliminated, if you want a war with Iran, if you want the minimum wage repealed, a national right to work law, and a permanent underclass of non-citizen immigrants to depress wages for the entire country, sure, celebrate Trump's defeat. But you'll regret it when one of these Cuban fascists is being sworn in next January.

         Lief to tie into what you are saying, his income tax proposal is much less flat, much more progressive (as in progressively higher rate the higher ones income) than your typical GOP tax reform proposal.  The rate structure could almost be a Dem one, though a Dem version would have higher rates on highest earners.
