My favorite is probably Victoria, BC, Canada.  It's beautiful and has lots of culture.  Another favorite place is just a few miles from there, the San Juan Island of Washington.  They're very beautiful and peaceful, lots of good restaurants (but no chains) and wildlife.

My least favorite is probably a tie between Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Did you go to Fez? I found that town fascinating, with its respective French and Arab quarters, with the latter about as close to looking like a medieval town in Europe as one can get. It even had various "quarters" controlled by guilds, the silversmiths, the tanners, the jewelers, and so forth. This is circa 1970.

No, I planned on going there in January, but then booked a ticket to Paris instead Smiley Still on my "to visit" list though. Maybe I'll go this year. Flying from the Netherlands to Fez is really cheap (75 euros for a two-way ticket or so) and prices in Morocco are also hilariously low.

You had a question?

Wow TCC, you've been to great places.

Smiley I try to make it my goal to save up and do one big trip a year, either through school or through volunteering. I've found that a lot of places that seem way out of reach to the average college student are actually pretty accessible if you go through the right avenues.

Yes, you call it "natural beauty," but it looks like a bunch of identically ugly settlement houses. Why is this one of your favorite places in the world?

I haven't visited a whole lot of places, my favorite would probably have to be Mt. Prospect, Illinois.  My aunt and uncle lived there until I was eight, and some of the happiest memories of my life so far ware of visiting them (and having them visit us.)

Least favorite is a tough call, since there aren't many places I don't like in some way.

Bakersfield for worse, and the area around Boulder, Utah for my favorite (which by the way has the least light pollution for the lower 48 states, is about 7,000 feet in elevation, and relatively dry, and thus superb for star gazing. It is also kind of a little counter cultural island in an LDS sea. It's too bad I am so far away from it now, but will always make it part of my route when driving from Hudson to LA.

The houses aren't what's beautiful (indeed, they are too small and not aesthetically pleasing), the nature is. Besides, the idea that I'm standing where my ancestors lived, a long time ago, is incredible. Standing on a mountain, feeling the wind and hearing basically nothing... that's the best, and I'd love to live there, even if I'd have to live in not much more than a trailer Smiley

Especially the last picture is exactly how I imagine it (probably because it was taken close to where I've often been).
