Why did Kasich beat Christie in Iowa when Christie activley campaigned there and Kasich didn't? Obviously they both got very low percentages but is there a reason for this? I think it may be because A. Kasich has a calmer and more Midwestern demeanor and B. Because he was the default candidate for the most moderate/liberal segment of the GOP whereas Christie didn't have a niche. Or was it just random?

Kasich has monopolized the self-hating Republicans.

I don't know about everyone else, but I lost Christie's respect when he blatantly lied about San Bernadino in the last debate. DMR also showed that Christie's favorability rating was bad.

Kasich did better because he's more respected than Christie at the national level.

IA has very few bridges, so Kasich voters were able to get to the caucuses.
