Yes but maybe not intentionally.

Trump's motives in this campaign have been in question since he declared in June.  For good reason.  He acts like a guy who's trying to sabotage the GOP.  But I think he's like his friend Michael Savage, sort of a right wing populist with no party allegiance.

If the Republicans fail this year to take back the White House, they will claim it was because the Clintons and Donald Trump hatched a devilish plot in early 2015 to sabotage their nomination process.  That will be the new narrative, and it will likely have some staying power.

I have been thinking about this for months.  It would be so like the Clintons to pull this!
The 2 things that cause me to doubt it:
1. Trump has been brutal toward Hillary.  Bringing up things that have been devastating about Hillary.  He undermines her every day
2. Trump had been toying with running for president as a Republican maybe as far back as 1988.

Doesn't matter -if it sticks, they'll go with it.

I do not think so both in terms of intent or effect.   All this stuff Trump is up to mostly makes himself look bad without hurting the GOP in any meaningful way.

'trying' kind of means intention. Anyway, no, but I do think its a massive lunge for power and influence, which makes sense for a narcissistic billionaire.
