I don't think that Cruz supporters are necessarily stupid, but I really question how a neurotypical person can think that that man is genuine, honest, principled, or somehow less than totally sociopathic.

The only Roman Catholic candidates are Rubio, Jeb, and Christie, so it's not like he had many choices.

It's not 1960.  It isn't really a big deal whether someone is Catholic or Protestant (and Rubio does go to both churches).

I am a bit surprised because I suspected Santorum could be a Trump guy for protectionist reasons, but apart from that the closest candidate to him ideologically is Rubio. Whatever Santorum's faults he never went around the twist in to anti-establishment-for-its-own-sake land like Huckabee.
