You gotta feel a little bad for little Rafael Edward Cruz, because he won Iowa but everyone is going crazy over Rubio. So what gives? Am I the only one who thinks they are overestimateing his chances?

Polls had him at 12-15%, he finished with 23%.  That's a huge underdog victory.  It's like if the Bulls were to finish their season 55-27 and make it to the NBA finals.  They're a decent team but they're not supposed to be fighting for the title.  It would be a huge leap in performance and understandably lead to a lot of hype.  See the second half of the Seahawks' season.  We didn't win, but we dramatically outperformed what was a losing record halfway through the season and have more hype for next year than either of the two teams actually playing in the Superbowl.

Because people care more about expectations than results. Also, Republicans recognize that Rubio has a better chance of winning a GE than Trump or Cruz, and would love to push the narrative that Rubio is surging.

Rubio is bland, represents a swing state, and is part of a demographic that has yet to hold the presidency. The fact that his views are just marginally different from his opponents doesn't matter so much as his persona. He has a boring business-like persona that reassures blue-bloods. And he's now going to contest the haven of blue-blooded Republicans-New Hampshire.

His best polling states are in the Midwest though, not places with blue bloods. The blue bloods are in the Kasich camp still.

True, but I think that will change quickly if he makes a strong showing in New Hampshire.

Cruz outperformed expectations more than Rubio really. Rubio was expected to finish 3rd and did exactly that albeit with more votes. Cruz didn't just get a higher vote total than expected but he won when he was expected to lose. The difference is FOX and most of the media has always wanted to push Rubio as the nominee. And Rubio helped them help him by giving a speech that pretended he won. Story sold.

Rubio represents a neo-con, elitist dream team double play, both in favor of an assertive US military role overseas, and as shown by his sponsorship of the Gang of 8 immigration surge bill, an advocate of increasing legal immigration.  If your one of the power elite, whats not to like?

It's truly sad that Republicans think they've found their version of Obama because of the superficial similarities.

Obama is of a superior intellect, has an inspiring life story, is one of the greatest public speakers on earth, and mobilized millions of voters from demographics that are often uninterested or disenfranchised by the electoral process.

Rubio is low IQ, bland, shady, and who exactly is he inspiring with his canned speeches? He only appeals to the same old/angry/white Romney voters from 4 years ago, especially as he pivots further and further to the right in the primary.

I can't wait until the buyers remorse this fall as future President Hillary Clinton eats him alive.

You have to remember one crucial fact:

There are a lot of closeted gay Republicans.

BeccaM and other Democrat trolls, really love Cruz,  wonder why? Ah! Could it be that they can't bear the idea that Rubio represents all there worst nightmares coming home to roost? .....the answer is YES!  They know it and now so do millions of Americans...Dems can't use the same narrative against Rubio as they did against Romney four years ago; Rubio has youth, is telegenic,  is good in debates and is personable, has a story; he presents a problem for Hillary in a potential debate face off: yep I can understand why you Democrats are so eager for Cruz;  it's like the Turkey not voting for Thanksgiving: Rubio remind Democrats of Bill Clinton and how he eviscerated George H.W. Bush in 1992 not only on substance but style and you Democrats recognise that Rubio could do the same to Hillary;  Ironic, isn't it? The same thing happening to Hillary that happened to Poppy Bush 😂 I love it!

LOL when the hell did I ever say anything to prop Cruz up? He's one of the most vile men to ever rise as high as he has in American politics.

No one is influencing an entire national election by posting on this board so there's no reason to try reverse psychology or whatever it is you're dreaming of. The fact is Rubio really isn't what you think he is. You'll see Smiley

He has within the GOP some appeal to the establishment and moderates (but he’s actually NOT a moderate, he just looks like this comparted to Trump and Cruz) and Tea-Partiers. His life story, age and looks would help him in the general election.

However, this confirms me when I said months ago that he’s gonna be the candidate.

It's a common theme, Cruz is your party's dream opponent,  exactly for the reasons you outlined;  he's a vile individual, that much we agree on: Rubio is preferable option for all the reasons I previously gave. Democrats don't want to face Rubio; he makes your party's job that more difficult.
