Seems like a three-way tossup at this point.

  • This will be demographically friendlier turf for Trump than the first two states
  • The establishment is going to try to coalesce behind Rubio ASAP (although Bush can be a significant thorn in their side, even if he does end up getting only a few percentage points)
  • This is also friendly turf for Cruz (although Carson can be a significant thorn in his side)

Why does everyone assume Rubio will have a shot in South Carolina? That is a Cruz-Trump friendly state.

If Cruz and Trump split the vote and Bush is out by then, Rubio has a decent shot there. Reminder: McCain won there in 2008.

Vote splitting means that pretty much everyone has a shot everywhere.

Scott and Gowdy endorsements could be critical there to boost Rubio. Trump is the favorite there tho, but that depends on who and how many drop out after NH which is still TBD.

South Carolina is hardly going to vote for someone notorious primarily for being arrested with a gay porn baron in 1990, folks.

Trump or Rubio. I just can't see Cruz winning here. SC usually goes for the establishment aside from Gingrich, and I'd argue he's establishment given he was a former speaker of the house.

I'm gonna go out on a bit of a limb here and say Trump. I still believe he'll win NH pretty convincingly and I think that momentum (given he's thought of as a dead man walking at this point) will last him till at least South Carolina and put him over the edge.

Rubio comes in 2nd or 3rd, but he'll still be declared the "winner".

I just wonder how long the media will continue to push Rubio if he finishes in 3rd in NH and fails to win SC.

The only way Rubio could win is if Bush, Kasich, and Christie all drop out, and I don't see that happening until at least until after the March 1 primaries, and by then Trump may have enough momentum that he can't be stopped.
