What of The Donald had been the 2000 Democratic nominee? Would he have won or lost against Dubya?

278: Gov. George W. Bush(R-TX)/Gov. Christine Todd Whitman(R-NJ) - 47.9%
260: Businessman Donald Trump(D-NY)/Sen. Evan Bayh(D-IN) - 47.4%

Activist Lenora Fulani(Ref/Green-NY)/Consumer Advocate Ralph Nader(R/G-CT) - 4.0%

Fulani gains a large amount of African-American votes in the South, winning 9.6% among Southern black women and 7.3% among Southern black men. Some claim this is because of the low black turnout for Trump, who defeated Douglas Wilder in the primary. The final black vote was 80%-15%-4.5%The final white vote was 52-46-2. Hispanics went 53-42-5 for Trump. In the end, Bush's pick of Whitman allowed him to send her north, particularly gaining in the suburbs and eastern parts of Pennsylvania. Trump's populist campaign was brought down by the minorities, despite his four point gain in the white vote.

TRUMP is a far more talented politician than Gore, so he should have been able to translate the incumbent Democratic President's high approval rating into a respectable win. As he currently does in real life, he would have overperformed in the Northeast, South and Rust Belt, while underperforming in the West and the Plains.

Businessman Donald Trump (D-NY) / House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-MO): 50%; 329 Electoral Votes
Governor George W. Bush (R-TX) / Former Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney (R-WY): 46%; 209 Electoral Votes
