St. Valentine's Day is a week away, so I thought I would ask this question.  What are your thoughts about it?

Personally, I think it's dumb.  While I am all in favor of love and friendship, I don't know why we need an entire holiday for it.  It just seems like another cash cow for candy and greeting card companies.  Or maybe I'm just jealous because I've never had a girlfriend.  When I do and/or am married, it may very well take on more significance for me.

As for V-Day, I am not opposed to awareness of violence against women, but would rather it be done on a different day so it's not competing for people's attention.

A scam dreamed up by the people whose lives conveniently worked out for them early on, so they dedicated a day to themselves where they could mock others. Also, possibly a vehicle for the patriarchy to field easy sex from desperate and lonely women on this most miserable of days.

Neutral.

Obviously a big scam (dubious origins, what Oldies said, etc.), but hey, an excuse to pile down on chocolate and other candies makes it hard to dismiss the day as outright horrible.

Yes, indeed, we are.  And it's all because of Ancel Keys.

It's horrible that it's become a day of excess, but the basic idea is good.  But either stick to something simple or keep Valentine's in your heart the whole year round.

FF

I've always enjoyed it.  In high school, it's a chance to borrow mom's Lincoln, take your sweetie somewhere special, and maybe leave a big mess in the back seat of the Lincoln.  In college, I worked at a florist for about a year, and it was one of our busiest delivery days, bested only by Mother's Day.  And, as a floral delivery guy, you meet quite a few pretty girls on Valentine's Day.  (not so with Mother's Day)  Later in life, it gets more expensive, especially if you're seeing more than one woman mid-February.  Still, it's fun.  Even later in life, you get to help pick out the cheesy little packs of cards with Spider Man or The Hulk (or, I suppose, Kittens if you have a little girl) and give your kid a bag of candy and cards to share with the class, and he comes home with lots of tooth-rotting candy to share with you and your old lady.  It's really one of the special days of the year.

This reminds me of the Halloween episode of Fairly OddParents: "Sugar-coated, sugar-flavored pieces of sugar!  Enjoy the tooth-rotting goodness!"

No, it was created by a good man who is probably spinning in his grave because companies today are exploiting it.

Happy VD!

I received a ten-motor massage seat cushion with heat.  I'm sitting on it now.  It straps on to my swivel desk chair and when I push a button it vibrates.  There are six different vibration settings.  It also gets hot.  I'm not sure how hot it gets because it takes a while to heat up.

I'll be here, alone, with tissues and a lifetime supply of Mortal Kombat girls.

In other words, Valentines Day sucks.
