i decided to make this fun little poll just to see where everyone stands, so don't take it too seriously -most of these posters and the categories i named them for should be self-explanatory for most of us, but for those who are not overly familiar with the posters i have named, i have provided a very abridged glossary:

Cosmo Kramer Liberals are socially moderate to conservative, tending to be religious, and economically liberal -namely they are populists.  judging from what i have read thus far, they are in the minority on this forum, and often find themselves caught between a rock and a hard place, taking fire from two sides at once: having their real-life political affiliations questioned by leftist liberals on one side, while having their faith questioned by the Right on the other.

Texasgurl Liberals lean strongly to the left both socially and economically, and are exclusivist to the point at which they can be fairly described as 'radicals' or purists, questioning someone's political affiliation if that someone fails to march in lockstep with them on at least most issues, especially if it has to do with the social and cultural realm.........

Alcon/Gabu Liberals are more libertarian in their outlook -and i use this term very loosely- in the sense that they define their liberalism primarily by the positions they take on social and cultural issues, while being in the center on economics, in some cases leaning ever so slightly to the right.  thus, they should not be confused with the hard-core Libertarians we have all come to know and love.......

Peter Bell/Joe Republic Liberals pride themselves on being in the dead-center on most issues, defining themselves more by pragmatic considerations on given issues on either the social or economic realms as opposed to ideology.  if one were to pigeon-hole them for the convenience of my poll, i would say they lean ever so slightly to the left on social and cultural issues, and are centrists on economics.

I'm not a liberal, but I'll try to classify a few:

Cosmo Kramer Liberals : Al, maybe ian? This is 'Farmer-Labor Party' territory.

Texasgurl Liberals not too many other sane ones... there's migrendel, and then you can qualify nutjobs like jfern or opebo here...
Alcon/Gabu Liberals I think you've nailed these two on the head. Can't think of anyone in a similar position, although i'm sure they exist. Probably members of the 'Independent Liberal' party.

Peter Bell/Joe Republic Liberals Bob, maybe? Or is he not really a liberal at all?

I don't fit any of these.

I'm obviously not a populist or libertarian, and I'm not a centrist, but I don't exclude people because of their views on social issues, so I don't think I fit your Texasgurl description.

You need a new category, mainstream liberal, for people like me, Siege, Harry, etc.

Yeah, I suppose if I had to pick one I'd be the Cosmo Kramer type, but really I'm a mainstream liberal, not really fitting into any of those 4 categories.

I don't like these categories very much... I suppose I'm a Alcon/Gabu or a Bell/Joe Liberal, somewhere in the middle of that.

Based on the descriptions above, I'd say I'm an Alcon/Gabu liberal. I'm not afraid to admit I'm a social liberal, but I'm no socialist.

Having just read this for the first time, I should probably say that I don't remember ever describing myself as a liberal.

Option 2, but I'm more pragmatic than the description says. As usual the right is mindlessly bashing the left.

The thing is, the left-of-centers here are wildly centrist compared to some of the right-of-centers.

Just look at what happened after nini started a post about how his "ideal" government would include a 58-42 Democratic senate and 213-212 GOP House. Republicans quickly followed up saying their ideal would be 100-0, 435-0, 50-0, 9-0 governments, or a split between the GOP and libertarians. There's a certain rabid centrist vs. hardcore never-too-far partisanship dynamic on this forum.

I object to people who support the crazy right-wing VAT which will  be something around 60%-70% (the 23% figure has been seriously debunked) calling me a nutjob. Does relying on the facts and not debunked studies make me a nutjob?

I'm curious who the eight people are who selected "Alcon/Gabu Liberal".  I thought we were an oddity, not representative of a plurality.
