It would be hilarious if the effort to knock out the leading establishment candidate propelled the most electable candidate the Republicans have into the lead.

Candidates like Kasich don't lose when the national mood is in their favor.

Kasich has no chance in South Carolina, Nevada or Super Tuesday. Rubio would have SOME chance in those states. Kasich coming in 2nd would turn the nomination into a Trump vs. Cruz battle.

Probably who they are polling.  These are internal polls, so they likely oversample voters who could support Kasich, and I doubt there is much overlap between Kasich voters and Cruz voters.
