Is he the right candidate to unify the party and give the Republicans a good chance to win back the White House in 2016? Discuss. Also consider how he would fare in a general election against Hillary/Bernie with maps.

I really like Kasich, and would happily vote for him if he is nominated. I think he would do well against either Democrat.

For the most part, I agree.
But as the question reads, I do believe that he is too "moderate" to win the GOP nomination.
The majority of the GOP electorate wants to hear "weirdness" from its candidates ; extreme right positions.
Kasich does not fall into this strange position.

Kasich isn't a moderate by any means, but perception is important and he's perceived as a RINO.  No chance.

No, but his rhetoric on Obamacare has ruined his chances of becoming the GOP nominee.

Kasich could have had a shot if he hadn't gone in for the asinine Jon Huntsman strategy being peddled by Rick Weaver, although it doesn't help that the GOP establishment/the media is hooked on this bizarre idea that the Republican party needs to nominate a young 'charismatic' politician from a minority background to win the White House, a front on which Kasich doesn't exactly cut the mustard.

Kasich has a more conservative record and a more moderate campaign than Romney. I don't think he's too moderate to win but he would have to unify the center right.

In that Kasich isn't a completely doctrinaire conservative, yes.

If Kasich is a RINO, the Republicans have no chance in 2016.

Hes too stiff and wimpy(*Rhino)

The guy actually kisses the butts of his opponents on stage. I assume hes trying to come across as a moderate above all the neg politics but really he comes across as a wimp.   The Dems would toy with him in the GE.

His ideology isn't a problem; but his sanctimony, his lack of clarity, his retreading of overly safe ground, his appearance and lack of posture and his generally weird behavior cripples his chances.

Kasich's ideology is part of the problem, though his sanctimony makes him radioactive to the base.  He's an Obamacare-supporting, immigration-loving RINO who said he should be running as a Democrat.  He would have serious problems winning over the party's conservative base, especially since he's been attacking the base since he started running.  Many Trump-skeptic conservatives would flock to Trump if it came down to a contest between Trump and Kasich.  At least Trump hasn't gone out of his way to attack the conservative base of the party.

Kasich can't win the GOP primary.

tbh I think Kasich would be better in regards to Obamacare if he had the nerve to defend Obamacre. As it is, it's nonsensical and clear proof that he is trying to have his cake and eat it:

Kasich: (waving arms) I oppose Obamacare and would repeal it.

Moderator: But you expanded Medicaid in your own state, Governor?

KAsich (arms flailing in every direction) That's what JESUS would have done! Policy X of Obamacare is a great important policy that has helped many people

Moderator: So you support Obamacare?

Kasich (arms fly off into audience) What gave you that idea???

If he had said "Obamacare needs to be fixed blah blah blah", it would have been more daring (and KAsich, bless, lacks the charisma to really pull sucha move off) but it wouldn't be as bad as his  ducking of the issue.

No, he's the most qualified GOP candidate by far.
