This is a result of the Flint water crisis.

The approved petition is valid for 180 days after approval at the Board of State Canvassers level. To move forward it must collect 789,133 signatures in a 60-day period within that 180 day window. Doing so would then put a question before voters statewide, most likely on the state's Aug. 2 election.

There was another one approved over another issue.  And honestly, it means nothing at this point.  IIRC, several petitions were approved before, and they didn't go very far.  I certainly remember seeing people on street corners petitioning for a recall during his first term.

They said the same thing when it was Gray Davis they were collecting recall signatures for.

Excellent news, maybe this time it will work (when it didn't for Walker)

MI is trying to move its election to presidential, otherwise they can wait for 2018. But, some Dems dont want to take chance in another midterm on electing a GoP gov.

But the petition included language NOT for the Flint crisis but for an executive order about the State School Reform/Redesign Office?

Anyway, I will definitely switch my residency to Michigan in time to vote to kick his *** out of Lansing.

Will this also result in another governor election or will the lt. gov. simply take over if Snyder is removed from office?

Isn't this time a bit different though? I never really heard about Snyder doing anything wrong before this, other than generic Republican stuff.

This is a situation where a recall could be successful. When gross mismanagement is involved, there is definitely enough disapproval to drive a recall.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley would be governor. He'd be one of the youngest governors in the country. Possibly a 2020/2024 presidential contender if he is successful.

Appears it is getting much worse for the governor:

Snyder's resignation called for after reports show staff knew of Flint water problems:
http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2016/02/snyders_resignation_called_for.html

Top Snyder aides urged going back to Detroit water:
http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/flint-water-crisis/2016/02/26/flint-water-crisis-snyder-detroit/80926138/

The Governor may be forced to resign even before a recall election could be held. STUNNING!

I guess we'll see if this recall is any more successful than the one against Scott Walker...

The Walker recall was perceived as driven by partisan issues by the voters, not about competence. That's why there were voters opposed to Walker who also opposed his recall. The MI situation is quite different. It's now driven by the Flint debacle, which does go directly to the competence of state management.

If the recall is successful, who takes his spot? As I read from Ballotpedia's Michigan recall info page:

Also, if the special election is held on the next election date - Does that mean November 8th, or the next primary? Seems like it would be better to hold it in November, given low turnout for the other elections (this cycle, an election on a primary date might favor Republicans a lot more as well, given Trump)
