Interesting person, great politician, probably one of the best PM UK ever had. In Poland unfortunately outside leftie circles unknown. Statistic Pole with basic historic knowledge know only Lloyd George and Churchill, probably for obvious reasons.

Poles don't know Thatcher? I would have assumed she's far more well known that Lloyd George, at least that's how it's in my parts...

As for Attlee, quite the FF.

Great PM, but people sometimes overlook his flaws.

Shame on me, I forgot about her. Yes, Poles knows her and even some of them, especially Korwin followers treat her as some sort of demigod. Probably Thatcher is more admired in Poland than in UK.

One of the best things about him is he seemed to think factions were stupid.

(and yes, the Corbyn Left of the time would have dismissed him as a sell-out hack. They would have probably even thought the same about Bevan...)

Best Attlee story ever (probably), this version from Harold Wilson's memoirs:

And the best Attlee fact is his response to Herbert Morrison trying to oust him in the immediate aftermath of the 1945 election. Attlee was a dish-served-cold man: he delayed his retirement as Party leader until the aftermath of the 1955 election (at which point he'd been in post for twenty years!) to make absolutely sure that Morrison was too old to be a serious contender for succession. Morrison was beaten into a poor third on the first ballot by Gaitskell and Bevan.

Best British PM by far, and probably one of the best 20th century Western leaders overall.
