What is Chris Christie's political future. He was a U.S. attorney from 2002 to 2009, won the governorship in 2009 and was reelected in 2013. He was rumored to run for president in 2012, but declined, and ran for president in 2016. He's facing problems with the Bridge-gate issue that was revealed in 2013 and 2014. Regardless of what happens, what is his political fate?

This is quite unlikely, but it would be neat to see Chris Christie demolish Bob Menendez in a senate race.

I think his political career in New Jersey is over, at least for the near future. Maybe he can make a comeback in the mid to late 2020s.

YES. Bob Menendez must be stopped, even if it's by warmonger Christie.

Either lobbyist or return to being a U.S. Attorney. He MAY get AG, but it depends on the President and how willing they are to listen to his standoffish attitude.

The Attorney General tends to be a bogeyman for the opposing party... a role Christie would actually fit perfectly. Still, I'll go with Lobbyist because I don't think a future Republican President would want to deal with his attitude.

He doesn't seem to be the type to be one of many in Congress.

I voted that he slinks back to NJ, but Attorney General would be a nice fit for him. After NJ though he'll just become a regular talking head on Fox News or something.

Inspired by his presidential campaign Christie follows through on his campaign promise while originally running for governor and gets initiative and referendum to pass the New Jersey legislature and then helps it get approved by the voters.  In the wake of this he becomes a national crusader for initiative and referendum  in states that don't have it and on the federal level, becoming known as Swiss Chris for his desire to Swissify the American political system.

This may be the most perfect reply to a thread I've seen in quite a while.

This is quite unlikely, but it would be neat to see Chris Christie demolish Bob Menendez in a senate race.

Bob needs to go, badly, but Christie is done in statewide NJ elections for some time now. Given how unpopular he is at the moment, it would be a pipe dream. Especially considering that even in a low turnout special election to fill the vacant seat in 2013, a Democrat still won by a normal, healthy margin. So low turnout or even a sour mood in a midterm under a Democratic president will not really help a Republican in an NJ US Senate race.

Goes to work in the private sector (corporate lawyer), tries to run again in 2020 or 2024 depending on the winner of 2016.

I think Christie will be a top choice for Attorney General if Trump wins. He really wanted to be Trump's VP, but he gave it to Mike Pence, Indiana's governor. If Hillary Clinton wins, then Christie will serve out his lackluster second term as governor and probably run for president in 2020 or 2024, or may be a Republican lobbyist or lawyer.

If we go with the assumption that Trump loses, Christie may (actually, I think probably) run in 2020 trying to cast himself as a Trump successor. Otherwise, I think he's done with electoral politics, and goes back to law practice -- can't see him as a particularly effective lobbyist. Can't even really see him as Atty Gen in a future non-Trump cabinet.

His political career is 100% over. He deserves a proper political obituary.
