no, it was one of the most blatant cases of imperialism in American history and is even accepted by almost everyone today that the US tried to start the war and was involved in the whole provacation of it, and that Spain had nothing to do with the explosion of the Maine. It's true that the people in the colonies were treated very poorly by Spain, but they were hardly treated any better once the US took over, especially in the Phillipines, where the US's actions were borderline-genocide.

I support all wars that we've won. Especially ones that lead to our present dominance.

And what do you suppose we conquer today? Canada? I'm not against that.

Puerto Rico and probably the Phillipines are better off than they would have been without the war, but the Spanish-American war was simply wrong.  Some people question the legitimacy of the Maine's presence in Cuba, others question whose responsibility its destruction was.  Few in this country had accurate information about what was going on in Cuba.  The real solution would have been for Franklin Pierce to have applied more pressure to purchase Cuba fifty years earlier.
