Carson. It wouldn't be surprising if Gilmore tried to stay in until the convention.

Carson is not going to be in the next debate, he seems entirely uninterested in doing anything in this race...from debating to campaigning. I have no idea why he's still running, but he has to be low on cash so he's gone soon.

Carson. I would like to see Gilmore trailing Cruz and Trump all the way to the nomination, though.

Carson, but I wonder what Gilmore is still doing there.

Carson is the obvious answer. The more interesting question is who is after him.

He's running to sell books, so it's unpredictable when he will drop out. Why do you think he didn't even bother to try to hold onto his Iowa lead and let Trump take it without a fight? Why do you think he's not dropping out when he failed epically in his best state? The guy doesn't want to be president.

Ignoring Gilmore, Carson will after South Carolina. The next one after that will probably be Kasich once everybody realizes he's a one state phenomenon, and then from there it depends on who does better in South Carolina and Nevada between Bush and Rubio. If Rubio can't beat Bush, he drops sometime in March, Bush becomes the establishment candidates and lives on for awhile, or vise versa.

It's Carson. I think Gilmore wants to stay in until Virginia to see if he can win a state. He will give up after that. The bigger question is will Rubio have to drop out before Jeb!

There's no way he actually thinks he could win VA.

What is this all about, honestly? It's not like he's building a REP, he is unknown and laughed at by the very few political junkies that do know him. He's wasting his time and money and received what, 6 votes in NH or something?

I missed Fiorina's dropout. I guess Carson would be next. Rubio might if he does REALLY badly in South Carolina.

Carson only had $6.5 million cash on hand as of December 31, and has a much higher burn rate than any of the other candidates.  He won't have the money to continue unless he does very well in South Carolina.  Carson will be out next.

Of the remaining major Republican candidates, only Kasich is in a worse cash position, but at least he came in second in New Hampshire.

Gilmore strikes me as this year's Republican version of Dennis Kucinich.

It's interesting to watch how quickly candidates are dropping out after Iowa and New Hampshire.
Since Carson and Gilmore won't be in the debates it isn't that important, but it will be newsworthy none the less when they finally go, although who knows if Gilmore stays in til the bitter end.
Rubio isn't likely to drop out before SC, nor are any of the others.

Carson will be in the next debate if he places fifth or better in an average of national and South Carolina polls.  That's perfectly possible.  He already received more than 3% in Iowa, so he doesn't even have to worry about the second prong of that test - getting over 3% in the South Carolina or national polls.

Gilmore strikes me as this year's Republican version of Dennis Kucinich.

Kucinich won certain votes and not others because of his ideology. Gilmore is just a generic Republican who isn't very popular.

Carson is the obvious answer, but I'd say a dark horse here is Rubio.  If he somehow manages to finish 5th in South Carolina, he may be out before Carson.

considering in NH Gilmore finished behind several candidates who'd already dropped out or are genuine fringe, i think we can stop including himb on the list of candidates.

with that in mind, Carson, PROBABLY right after SC, with an outside chance he folds even before then (depending on cash)

I agree with Carson.

Kasich's placing last night in New Hampshire will give his campaign enough life to last until Ohio, but he'll take quite a beating in the states that vote before then. Rubio, despite his horrible placing last night, already had enough life in his campaign to last him until Florida, but unless he really breaks out in any of the states before then, he's done. Both campaigns are on life support, but the difference is that Kasich's campaign was already dead, New Hampshire just revived it a little while longer.

And Jeb is... I dunno. South Carolina is probably his last chance but he may be too proud to drop out after performing poorly there.

Gilmore is doing this entirely for the lulz.  He has wholeheartedly embraced his status as a joke candidate.  He's not dropping out soon.
