An aside: If you're cheering the death of someone solely on ideological grounds, you need some help. He has a family, kids, friends, etc. Scalia is a person, not a political prop, be respectful.

This. Even if it's just trolling... too much, guys.

Welcome to politics the internet in 2016.

Everyone keep an eye out for this guy: Sri Srinivasan

Next Supreme Court Justice, calling it now.

Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen.

Plot Twist: Obama nominates himself, or Madam President does once inaugurated. Peak trolling

That wouldn't end well, even if it's trolling.

One of the most crooked, partisan, and activist justices ever to sit on the Supreme Court. Easily the worst in American history.

It's not like Obama's going to nominate another Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There's going to be somebody he can get through the Senate.

Agreed. I'm not cheering it.

I am probably less sad about it than I would be if Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died, if I am completely honest.

So what? He wanted to send gay people to prison for having sex with each other. He voted to repeal Obamacare and take health insurance away from millions, which would have resulted in tens of thousands of deaths. He voted to execute innocents. He was an awful person, who caused death and suffering.

So the GOP will block any appointment until the election, right?

Not sure if that would be in their best interests. More Republican obstructionism would hurt them not only in the presidential election, but the Senate as well.

I feel ill. This is like the one thing that could force me to vote Pub in November. The Clean Power Plan, affirmative action, mandatory public sector union fees, DACA: this was a big term. 4-4 decisions are going to reinforce the status quo.

Thank God we were saved from that wrath.

Yes, obstruction would hurt swing state Senators up for re-election, like Ayotte, Portman and Toomey.

The two names I've seen on Atlas are Merrick B. Garland and Sri Srinivasan.

Someone on the forum also mentioned Brian Sandoval.

Scalia was easily one of the most powerful and influential right-wing individuals in the country, especially in the legal sphere. Consequently, he was responsible for many decisions that adversely affected many of  the most vulnerable populations in the U.S. And he took pride in those decisions.

Why should liberals of all people be expected to pay any respect to someone like that?

Justice Henry Baldwin died in office on April 21, 1844. He wasn't replaced for more than two years, partly because of partisan gridlock. (read on twitter)

Since then most Supreme's have been confirmed in far shorter periods of time than Obama has left in office. Still very much a weird situation.

He wasn't a great person, but I won't grave dance.

With that said, this is going to impact the Presidential race. Republicans refusing to have a vote on the nomination is going to give the Democratic nominee a major talking point about how obstructionist the Republican Party is.

The Florida recount had me suspicious.  Then 9/11 had me almost convinced.  But a billionaire TV personality hijacking one major party nomination process, a socialist candidate in the other, and THEN a SCOTUS Justice dying less than a week after the New Hampshire primary?  I'm fairly certain that not only are we living in a long-running prime-time political drama, but possibly a badly-written reboot of that drama, revived for Netflix.

Obstruction of the nominee COULD help Sanders. Hillary is saying Sanders can't work with a Republican Congress. He could rightly say back, no one can.

Agreed. Most lefties are mean, violent, narcissistic babies. Why should we expect them to feel and act like decent human beings during a national tragedy?
