I have made a "poison" for just about anything. (3%) Hydrogen Peroxide; (91%) Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol; (100%) Distilled White Vinegar; Palmolive antibacterial dish soap: (2%) Lactic acid.

Considering adding a cleaner for bathrooms.

The publisher just accepted my novel (the one I wrote in English).

Best news I've ever received.
May I ask whom is publishing it and was the process arduous?

I don't feel comfortable disclosing the publisher (an American company, of course) before it's more or less finalized. And the process was very easy, actually.

Can you tell us what the genre is?

Political/historical fiction.

I look forward to reading it.

After just getting back from a nice day with my uncle and his new partner I find out I'm working for 18 hours this weekend because someone called in sick. Absolutely ruined my weekend

It's a poison, no it's a bathroom cleaner, no it's both!

I was decorating our tree to find that our topper, which is at least fifty years old, was broken. It could have happened at any point in the past three years, but it's still really disappointing, especially considering that we're very careful about this sort of thing.

Mixed feelings regarding carolers; on the one hand, it's good that there is a group of people engaged in traditional, wholesome, and community-friendly activities that might serve to strengthen our moribund reserve of social capital; on the other hand, I really can't be made to communicate with people in an understanding manner 24/7. They appear to have left, thankfully. I wish them the best.

My former stepdaughter from China had a baby girl in May, and she asked me to give the baby (my "grand-daughter") an English name in addition to her Chinese name.  I don't and likely won't ever have my own children, so this was the only child I had a chance to give a name to.  It's a unique kind of happiness.

Winter break came just as I was starting to get more subbing opportunities. Oh well, I did manage to compose a piece for choir this month, though I haven't published it yet.

Basically acceptance of the fact that being in a relationship would be too emotionally complicated and thus unhealthy for me, and that having to potentially compromise the way I live my life would be detrimental.  I'm in better company with the thoughts in my head than with anyone I could ever remotely consider my S.O.

Ah. In this day and age, a decision made from a position of self awareness is too rare. More people should be like you in this regard.

Thanks.  I kind of sound like a conceited asshole the way I explained my reasoning there, but that and lots of personal reflection are what led me to this decision.

Sorry, I didn't know where else to put this.  As much as I am in favor of federal organizations that help citizens, actual encounters at federal offices frequently tempt me to go full-tilt libertarian.  I went on time to a small IRS office with an appointment yesterday.  Two people working there.  One asked about my appointment and said "I'll help just as soon as I deliver this package."  She walked out the door in a tiny building and didn't return for 30 minutes.  The other one could be heard in his booth calling for help with a reimbursement form for his own travel, which he likewise worked on for half an hour. The police officer guarding the office was so embarrassed that he started to lean over the booths looking at the guy working on his reimbursement, apologizing to me and chatting me up about the holiday season   My problem, by the way, took three minutes and one printed-out form to solve.  Sometimes federal employees really deserve to be flogged in public.
