I got my eye taken out last Thursday and I'll get a fake one in about a month or so. Good times, good times.

oh wow. i hope you're okay (or at least as okay as possible)

Yeah, it's a bit uncomfortable all the time/painful some times, but the swelling should go down over the next month or so before they put in the prosthesis.

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear this. Good to hear you aren't in agony, though. May I ask what happened?

I've always been blind in that eye, and I decided to have it taken out and replaced before I go off to college because overall it causes more trouble than it's worth (what with the increased sensitivity and the pain it can cause).

Really sorry to hear that, Alfred. Hope it gets better soon.

No, no, this is a good thing (in the long run, of course)! Sucks about the overall eye situation, and the process at the current moment, but in a month or so I'll be much better off than I ever was before.

What happened to cause the blindness if you don't mind my asking?

It's called retinopathy of prematurity; the retina detached somewhere in utero and shriveled up.

Got into University of Rochester! Also got my financial aid package, which appears to be about $50,000 a year (my mom teaches there), so the monetary situation is looking good there.

I assume that includes tuition and fees?

Yes. I meant the aid is $50,000, by the way, not the eventual price. That's around $20,000 a year, including tuition and fees and everything.

For a second I thought college in the US was extremely expensive, and then worked out that including my fees I'm taking on 13K debt this year alone

No, it is 3:.

I got into American U's three-year politics/policy/law program and got a boatload of money from them, so that is looking like a more significant draw.

Cornell financial aid hasn't come in yet, but I feel like it's not going to be too great. For now I'll have to decide on Georgetown vs. Rochester and see what Cornell gives me when that comes. They both gave me the same amount of money, so that thankfully won't be an issue.

It's incredibly crazy out there folks. We need to cancel classes until we can figure out what is going on.
What??? Why???

Snow, I'm assuming.

I got a mold taken of my eye socket, which they'll use to create the prosthesis. Also I didn't get too much financial aid from Cornell, but we're trying to get the blind people organization to cough up some money.

Y'all are looking at the captain of the Upstate New York quiz bowl championship team here. We made quiz bowl great again by repeatedly crushing Ithaca High School with our mighty brains and redeemed our loss from last year. That time it was me solo vs. Ithaca's full team with me coming in second; this year it was our full team (sort of) vs. Ithaca's best player with him coming in second.

I'm in a love triangle with two Spanish boys. It's not as fun as it might sound.

Had a great a cappella concert with some of my best friends, and everything went perfectly.

This thread is boring and is besmirching the good name of Update. If you can't post more interesting things, at least make posts where you inadvertently reveal your real name like this one:

Eh, I think it's time y'all got to know me better.

Finished my geometry and earth science Regents on Friday. Now I don't have to go back to school until September. Smiley

Oh, man, Regents exams. What a throwback.

I'm doing a community involvement program before college officially starts and today was the first full day, so that was nice. We helped an old woman with her yards and she told us about how she used to do ballroom dancing but can't anymore, and then we went down and interviewed some undocumented day laborers about labor and immigration issues, which actually was really fascinating for me personally. Hot as inks, but it was a pretty good day nonetheless.

I'm going to NC in a few weeks for a voter registration drive with my church, so that'll be fun.

That sounds exactly as lofty as I presume it is, actually. [/shade at Joseph Campbell]

Check yourself before you Shrek yourself.

Yeah, it's just basic stuff wrapped in fancy language. I think that everyone sees those patterns in literature without actually being taught about them, even if we don't really think about it much Tongue

So much to do, so much to see

Fun fact: 'All Star' and 'Midnight City' have only a one-BPM difference.

And All Star has basically the same chords as Imagine.
