Will Obama nominate a sitting federal Court of Appeals judge to the USSC?

Seems that most Supreme Court nominees these days come from the federal Courts of Appeals. That makes sense, since the Supreme Court is itself a (mostly) federal appellate court.

One of those unanimous appointees would be a good choice.

I personally think there's a lot of value in having at least one justice on the Court who comes from somewhere other than the federal bench. Nothing wrong with putting a governor on the Court to provided a different perspective, especially when the Court has to deal with issues such as election law.

But yes, I think under the circumstances Obama will nominate a sitting federal judge because it's a lot harder to argue with their qualifications for the job.
