The establishment darling of IN's 9th district was unable to garner the 500 signatures required in the 1st district for ballot access in his run for Senate (he got only 498 signatures). Rep Todd Young is also facing a primary challenger in Rep Marlin Stutzman. Democrats and Rep Stutzman are fighting furiously to not allow Rep Young on the ballot.

If the case succeeds and Rep Young is not allowed to run for Senate, could this flip Sen Dan Coats's seat for the Dems?

From what I hear Young is in the clear, in which case it might backfire on Stutzman for teaming up with the Indiana Democratic Party. Either Young or Stutzman would be favored in the general, but Young would be more so. Stutzman isn't quite Mourdock, but he has made some gaffes in the past and is probably to the right of the state.

In each congressional district. The Secretary of State verified 501 signatures for Young, while the Indiana Democratic Party and Stutzman say that Young only has 498 in Indiana-01( the region).

But still, how do you fail to get at least 500? There are tens of thousands of Republicans in ultra-Dem Lake County alone!

I don't get why campaigns always aim for 500 or 501 anyways. If anything they should aim for like 550-600 as insurance.

Who knows? Either way, he shouldn't be on the ballot. This is like when Rand Paul whined his way into the primetime debate.

He officially got enough though. The Democratic Party is alleging that the official count by the state government was wrong. They have to prove Young wrong not the other way around.

Shame. I guess we'll have to rig the primary the old fashioned way, then: time to call up the mortuary to see if we can get my great-great grandpa into a voting booth.

Well at least you have a sense of humor about being an Indiana democrat. Gotta love the old joke about northwest Indiana, where people get more conservative as they get older but then die and start voting dem again.
