If he finishes in 5th or 6th with single digit support i would say there is a good chance he finally receives the message.

Not persuaded any of Rubio, Kasich or Bush would drop out before their home state comes up mid-March. Even if not that long, a week after South Carolina, quasi Bush home states Texas and Maine are in the Super Tuesday mix. With money in the bank and Trump, Cruz and Rubio turning their attention to each other, why quit?

“Wall Street source tells me top Jebber calling donors: He will drop out unless he finishes “strong third” in South Carolina.”

I agree, and I voted yes. Boy, I sure hope so. We don't need a third Bush in the White House. Of course, were he to get the nomination, virtually impossible by now, he might be easy to beat.

IF TRUE, that means he will be out after SC where he probably will finish 4th or 5th with a poor showing overall.

Are we sure this rumor didn't come from the Cruz campaign?  Tongue

It's been clear from the beginning that Jeb is only running because his family and their supporters expect him to, and his heart isn't in it. Running a losing campaign would have been bad enough, but he's been completely humiliated so badly that his epic fail of a campaign has pretty much guaranteed that there will never be another Bush Presidency.

If true this might be a last ditched attempt to rally his vote base in SC to turn out in large numbers to get him to third and give him a chance to be the establishment alternative to Trump/Cruz.  If he does not make it third he will have a slow death anyway. So might as well gamble everything in one last throw.

I don't know if he is going to make it over the finish line for SC. This kind of mindset right now suggests he could drop anytime between now and Saturday.

I think that a top-3 finish at least once in the first 3 states is a must to stay in. Has anyone ever gone on after not achieving that? (not counting completely quixotic candidates like Kucinich)

So far, that's Bush and Carson. So I think this makes perfect sense. Bush staying on after New Hampshire had a certain logic. He beat Rubio there and Kasich was said to have low resources and looked like a potentially bad fit for South Carolina. So Bush had a not unrealistic hope of coming in 3rd there beating out Rubio and Kasich. Another bad Rubio showing in SC, he drops out. Kasich is forced out either then or after Bush beats him again in Nevada. Voila, establishment candidate and some sort of outside chance. By now it is clear that isn't happening of course, but it was worth a shot after NH.

It makes sense, sadly, and I don't see Jeb getting 3rd here barring some miracle.

His donors were maxed out after the first quarter of last year, and his fundraising fell off the cliff in the second half of 2015. I'm not surprised he's running short on money.

What ?! I thought one thing the Bush campaign should have is $$$.  I guess most of that money are in SuperPACs which cannot be used to pay campaign staff.

I think he will drop out if he doesn't finish ahead of Kasich and Rubio.

Most of his donors have held back more money since a lot of them don't see his campaign going anywhere. I love Jeb and I think he'd be a great president, but he's running in the wrong era, and the electorate is out for blood and Jeb isn't going to be the one to feed them.

He has to. He probably thinks he still has a chance but this is just getting too embarrassing.

Yeah, everything hinged on him not winning the FL governor election in 1994.  He he won he would have ran in 2000 instead of W and the GOP as well as USA as a whole would have been better off for it.

I'm actually rooting for a strong Cruz and Rubio showing now.

There's a slight chance he might continue (for a bit) if he finishes ahead of just one of Rubio and Kasich.

This should be a three man race anyway.

Bush should drop out, he is getting no traction whatsoever.

Carson should drop out, he became completely irrelevant as a candidate long ago.

Kasich should drop out after South Carolina, he had one success by default, and is not likely to have many more.  He is too bland.  Nothing compelling about him.

Then either Cruz or Rubio can go head to head with Trump and beat him.

I have a gut feeling Kasich is going to try to get to Ohio on March 15. He's essentially skipping South Carolina and Nevada.

Oh no, Jeb! Bush will drop out having never gotten the White House. To quote the Cat in the Hat, "What a shame, what a shame, what a shame". Cry
Guys let's hold Jeb! Bush Rememberance Day, to honor Jeb!'s failed campaign. The guy ran the highest energy campaign in the history of the nation, he deserves it.  Cry
