Not only am I anti-slavery, I consistently oppose tyranny, such as the progressive income tax, which is obviously far worse than slavery anyway.

Assuming "slave" as in how liberals call the blacks in apartheid South Africa "slaves", I'd vote slave.  (Free education, free houses, free food, free roads, everything is free courtesy of the white people.)

"Slave" as in Roman-style slaves where you row a galley and if it sinks you're tied to the ship...  No.

I voted slave.

do we really need two questions that are nearly identical, right next to eachother on this board?

This is another of those questions which is like asking if I'd rather be shot or stabbed to death. NO to both.

Lets see...

Keep at least half my income when I'm doing well (and more if I'm having a fiscially bad year, like I have for the last several), while possessing the right to vote, speak my mind freely (including expressing my opinions as to how my tax dollars should be spent), even own firearms should I choose to do so.

or.....

Get paid nothing, live in a shack (at best), have no rights at all, get fed table scraps and other things that are good for little more than substinence, live in constant humiliation, and get beaten if I fail to do as told (or is massah is in a bad mood, or a good mood, or whatever.)

It amazes me that some people have become so spoiled that they don't even begin to realize how good they have it, and so jaded that they demand even more from a nation which has been beyond generous to them.

Perhaps it would be good to listen to Kennedy's famous words and start considering what you do for this nation which you have been blessed to have been born in, rather than just whine about how unfair it is you can't be given even more.

What does this question have to do with the obvious truism in my post?

Your point is quite correct. Yes slavery would be far worse, but I don't want either one.

Under progressive taxation, the higher rates are only paid by the owning class - who are essentially still the slave-owners.

Your view on what slavery was like is completely wrong, to say the least of it.

I won't say completely wrong, but probably atypical.
