McCain would be able to win at least 7 more of those states that you have for Kerry.

That's more of what I was thinking. He also might be able to squeeze Hawaii into his winning column.

Agreed, I don't think VT and WA would be out of reach either.

of the major party vote. McCain's shares in the South would be a tiny tad lower than Bush's. Elsewhere he'd outdo Bush easily, except in Hawaii where he doesn't get a big incumbent boost.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

Uh, what?

Also, McCain, solidly. Kerry would not take any states except for CA, IL, NY, MA, MD, and ME's first congressional district. DE, HI, ME overall, and WA would be toss-ups.

EDIT: I apparently forgot the entire northeast existed. MA, RI, and VT would be Kerry; CT and NJ would be toss-ups.

Why is everyone giving Minnesota to Kerry?

Because they don't know what they're talking about! Smiley

I just realized that it is 2008. My map was for 2004. My 2008 map would be:

McCain 398
Kerry 140

Kerry won Minnesota by 3 points. He won Maine by 9! Minnesota is not this solid. Wink + Tongue

McCain would get everything Bush got, plus the following:

He would easily get Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, Oregon

He would definitely have a chance in Hawaii, Washington, California, Delaware, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey

I agree with all of those, although I'm not entirely sure on Vermont. Kerry won Vermont by 20 points the first time around, and it would not be easy to swing 20% of the voters in a state, even for John McCain.
