Either the primary or general. He would be somewhat discredited as well as 74, but he still wouldn't waste another chance to who're himself out for more attention

Trump would be gone. But his supporters would probably think Trump lost because he wasn't extreme enough. They would support another Trump-like candidate if one shows up, and the whole thing starts all over again, except with even more extreme rhetoric.

I disagree, Unlike Cruz or Goldwater before him, Trumps support is based around a cult of personality rather than policy or ideaology. This is why many in the establishment including preibus seem ok with nominating him and losing because not only does it position a more moderate candidate for 2020 but also many of trumps supporters, without their God to lead them, will continue their normal voting patterns

So once Trump leaves the 70% of Republicans who support banning Muslims will suddenly stop doing so? I don't think so. Trump has already left a permanent mark on immigration policy by bringing these kinds of positions to the mainstream.

In 2012 Romney's self deportation was considered to be very right-wing position. But Cruz is going much further, saying they should be deported (although he gives no plan to do so and probably wouldn't honor the promise), and doesn't get any attention for his position because Trump is even more extreme.

Plenty of Republicans are much more extreme in their personal views than Trump. A third of Republicans support banning Islam. You can't even give all of the blame to Trump on this one since he isn't even taking that position. Why won't these GOPers support a candidate who supports banning the religion in 2020?

You realize that the same electorate nominated McCain and Romney with the same positions? My point is that nobody supports Trump for his positions, if he reversed his position on the wall or the Muslim ban his supporters  would still find an excuse to support him.

The premise of this thread is implausible.  TRUMP will win.

Belligerence in the elderly is often a symptom of senility.
