In 1976  Senator charles Percy was going to run for president  . from 1968 to 1984 When would it be  the best time for percy to run for president? He was  ROCKEFELLER Republican would that be a handicap?

He might have squeaked in in 1976:

Percy/Rockefeller 49% / 270 EV
Carter/Mondale 49% / 268 EV

I'd imagine under a Humphrey/Muskie - Percy/Rockefeller - Wallace/LeMay scenario, Wallace would get more than the 13.5% he received in real life and perhaps carry TN, NC, SC. Might MO flip to Humphrey in this scenario? Does Percy win?

I dunno, it'd be a squeaker...but it's far more plausible than 1976 with the aftermath of Watergate. I don't even think with Ford declining election the GOP would have a chance.

Percy/Ford or Percy/Rockefeller in 1968 is best. An outsider like him would be useful in 1968.
