If he's convinced Trump is toxic in the general why are they refusing to even have hearings for a Supreme Court nominee? The Republicans have a lot more leverage now with a last year President desperate for a win. They won't get a better nominee next year with Hillary and a potential Democratic senate.

What better way to show a Republican senate in an effective, functional check on the executive than coming together with a Democratic executive to put a well qualified, consensus nominee on the Supreme Court?
