That's probably smart of him - CPAC was not going to be his audience.

Donald Trump is perfectly justified in skipping CPAC when they try to shaft him with a speaking slot at 8:30 AM on Saturday that nobody was going to attend

Doesn't matter. Hardly anyone watches the speeches live except for conference attendees. As long as he said enough outrageous stuff (and he would) the media would give him tons of coverage for days, allowing him to dominate another news cycle, which is his entire campaign strategy.

Who cares? I'd rather campaign for the general public, not a closed-off, factional group.

He knew it was a waste of time only to get slaughtered in the vote. Now he can excuse his terrible performance with 'I didn't even try'.

Apparently the Trump press release about ditching CPAC for Kansas had a few problems with it (revised version found on Twitter):

According to Schlapp the speaking time was to accommodate Trump. The issue was that Trump didn't want to have a Q&A after his speech, which all other candidates agreed to.  Trump felt as frontrunner he should be allowed to be treated differently. He wanted to give a speech and thats it but they wouldn't change that requirement so he bailed

Perhaps Mr. Trump could leave the country, or even the planet, for the duration of the campaign? That way he'd be certain to avoid criticism.

15% is a solid showing for TRUMP, who actively abandoned the event and got basically criticized, if not by name, by every speaker.

Laughable Rubio still got 30%. The onetime revolutionaries at CPAC are full-blown establishment now.

I SOwant to hear what the 1.3% who voted for Sanders or Clinton were thinking.

What's the chance that Gary Johnson could end up winning that straw poll with Rand Paul now out of the race?

My guess is that they'll only include the Republican candidates in the straw poll.

It was kinda weird that they included Sanders, Clinton, and Bloomberg.
