Wow.
When it rains, it pours.

Donald Trump tweeted a quote that has been attributed to Italian Dictator Benito Mussolini and defended the tweet in an interview on Meet The Press.

The host of Meet The Press, Chuck Todd, asks Trump "You want to be associated with a fascist ?"
And then you can see Chuck Todd laughing in Trump's face about the whole thing.
The list continues with Trump's love for this fascist, white nationalist, the KKK, David Duke  etc etc.
Unbelievable !

Here is the video :

Most of his supporters probably don't even know (or care) who Mussolini was. Actually, most Americans probably don't even know who Mussolini was (especially Trump supporters). Nothing is going to hurt Trump.

He got the trains running on time.

EDIT: In case it wasn't obvious, this is a joke. But I don't think this is that bad.

I'm no Trump fan, but this reminds me of when a Pinterest user decided to troll by posting Taylor Swift images with Hitler quotes. The lesson you should have drawn from that was not that Swift has Nazi sympathies, but that Hitler said lots of uncontroversial things. It's a pretty weak attempt at a gotcha.

Benito was a pretty cool and quotable guy. Not seeing the issue here.

Are you saying that Trump supporters are that un-educated and naïve ?
That they don't even know who Mussolini was ?

His supporters want fascism, duh. Why do people keep thinking this sort of stuff is going to hurt him?

Of course, practically none of them are bright enough to know that either they or he is advocating for fascist policies, or even quoting a fascist.

I'm not sure if most Americans know who Mussolini is.
This will have no effect. Trump has retweeted white supremacists from before. So what?

FTR, this isn't a Mussolini quote. It's a motto used by the Italian army.

Trump could admit to being a terrorist, and his supporters would still not think any less of him.

Literally.  Gawker created the fake Twitter account and tweeted at Trump in an explicit attempt to make him look stupid.

But he still fell for it. What does that show about him?

It only took two months of them pumping out tweets directed at Trump before he retweeted one of them. The actual quote was "It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep" which actually sounds more like a Game of Thrones reference than anything. Certainly nothing inherently fascist about the quote.

Clearly this is a form of anti-Italian race baiting on the part of CNN.  Good for Trump to dismiss this racism and not fall into the trap.

Fell for what?  People other than the gotcha media can and do differentiate between a good quote and the person who said it.  This is much ado about nothing.  It is the silly media playing stupid games.

Trump could even quote Hillary and it wouldn't hurt him. Remember that Republicans have been attacking Trump for being friends with the Clintons, and that has only helped Trump.

Gawker is one of the big Latte Liberal "news" sites that hipsters flock to. No surprise they're behind this.

It may have been a motto of the Italian army, but it was also a quote attributed to Mussolini.
According to WikiQuote, it is listed under Mussolini .... Attributed in "Duce (1922-42)" in TIME magazine (2 August 1943)

Agreed. I went back and watched the interview again; here's a summary of the exchange:

“Sure. It’s okay to know it’s Mussolini,” Trump responded. “Look, Mussolini was Mussolini. It’s okay to … It’s a very good quote. It’s a very interesting quote. I saw it. So what, I know who said it. What difference does it make whether it’s Mussolini or somebody else. It’s a certainly interesting quote?”

Todd reminded Trump that Mussolini was a fascist, asking the businessman if he wanted to be associated with the late dictator.

“It’s a very interesting quote and people can talk about it,” Trump said, reminding Todd of his millions of Twitter followers.

“You want to be associated with a fascist?” Todd responded.

“No I want to be associated with interesting quotes,” Trump said, again discussing his millions of social media followers.

So what, specifically, is problematic with what Trump said? Is the quote uninteresting? Does citing the quote indicate that Trump somehow agrees with Mussolini? That using the quote somehow makes Trump a fascist? (If this last is the case, does a video showing Clinton barking like a dog serve to indicate that she supports dogs everywhere? What about all those cats? Yeah, it's almost that foolish...).
