Pretty fascinating subject, Islamic Banking. There's nominally no interest rates. Of course you have to pay back more than you borrowed anyways (in fact, in countries where both types are widespread, such as Pakistan and the Gulf states, the de facto interest rates are almost exactly the same), the difference is that you won't have to pay back even more if you can't pay back on time - that is, less risk for the borrower, more risk for the lender. And tighter credit screening, as a necessary result.
