Will we ever get a county map for Minnesota? Sad

It's complicated, but I'm working on it.

Thanks! Smiley It would be really sad if we couldn't get a complete national county map.

Thank goodness Alaska doesn't have counties.

Alaska has county equivalents - municipalities, boroughs and census areas.  Making a map would be impossible here, as results were released by House District only, and there were very few precincts.  Getting an exact number for some boroughs depends on estimating a split for some HDs, which may or may not be correct.  And some of the census areas didn't even have a polling place.

I have tried to calculate the Republican vote for major municipalities/regions, and will post it in the Republican Results thread.

He's referring to Trump. 'National', when it modifies 'socialist', is a...a pretty important modifier.

Minnesota hasn't fully finished reporting yet, but you can see my estimate of what the county returns are here. Both parties report results by Organizing Units, which sometimes cross county lines. It isn't perfect for the Minneapolis area, but it's really close.

I imagine they'll release all of the caucus site data at some point which would make a county map easier.

Well, obviously. No national socialist was running in the Democratic primary.

Fair enough, but TRUMP isn't a national socialist either.

Just to add to the earlier discussion about Floyd County, VA, this is a real image from Google Maps in this county:

True, true. Possibly even more so in the GOP.

Yeah, I was making a joke about that (Louisiana doesn't either, but that's only a difference in name unlike AK). I still don't understand why Alaska is set up like that though (it's even in their constitution to not have counties). I took a look at the Panhandle and I'm pretty sure that you're right. There's no way that all of the census areas had an individual precinct. I wouldn't have a problem with their funky set up if we were able to get results by census area/borough.

I think the Wikipedia map actually managed to get county-level data for Alaska. It doesn't have percents, but it could probably still be useful. Ben Carson still managed to win one.

So I know sometimes the NYT stops reporting results when it is clear what the results are. Do the races in Minnesota, Colorado, Arkansas, or Massachusetts have their full results (all precincts reporting) numbers somewhere else?

Alaska has no counties, that's impossible; results were reported by state House district, so those exist. Ben Carson did win one, though it was a majority-Alaska Native, ultra-low turnout one (just 41 votes were cast, of which Carson placed first with 17 -- could conceivably be 1-2 large families supporting him).

If the primary were open, Trump would have won Oklahoma and Sanders would have lost it.

I can buy that - in rural areas there are a lot of Trump-Sanders swing voters, especially in Oklahoma.

Yeah, I wonder where that data came from.

What's the link?

I and other posters (Sibboleth?) have made Alaska county-level equivalent maps in prior general elections - and perhaps primaries.  But in state-run elections, there are actual precincts in all of the census areas.  In the party-run caucus, some of the rural census areas didn't have a single precinct.  And we only have HD-level results, not precinct results, so it's difficult to allocate, say Haines from Juneau in one of the Juneau-dominated Southeast HDs.  Making an assumption based on past turnout in each area wouldn't be helpful if Haines actually backed one candidate and Juneau another.

I have estimated vote percentages in the major county equivalents or regions in the Republican results thread, but I had to assume uniform voting in split HDs and turnout in the various county equivalents equal to relative party registration in those equivalents or votes cast in past Republican primaries there.  So the estimates may or may not directly match reality.  And it does matter - allocating less of HD 9 and 12 to Mat-Su than to other areas helps Trump's numbers there.
