We all know the looney promise by Trump to build a wall across the U.S. Mexico border is and always has been a non-starter, promised by Trump to gain support from racists, bigots, and red necks, and we all know that Trump has guaranteed that Mexico will pay for the wall.

Well, think again Donald and your red neck friends.

Mexico will under no circumstances pay for the border wall that US presidential candidate Donald Trump has proposed building to stop illegal immigration, the Mexican finance minister said.

"Let me say this emphatically and categorically: under no circumstances is Mexico going to pay for the wall that Mr Trump is proposing," Finance Minister Luis Videgaray told TV network Milenio.

Well TRUMP is a negotiator. He makes deals. He wants Mexico to pay for the wall, Mexico doesn't want to pay for the wall, and I'm sure they'll meet somewhere in the middle.

We have ways of making people pay. Trump is going to bring back waterboarding and "a lot worse" so I'd advise Mr. Videgaray to watch his mouth.

No.  Mexico says NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

But we all know there is no way on this earth that wall will EVER be built anyway.

Dumb and impossible idea from the get go.

His theory is that impounding remittances, imposing trade sanctions and fees etc. would be a threatening enough bargaining chip. And he is right in that it would  send Mexico into a deep depression if he followed through (well it would also send the US into recession, but whatveer)

Yeah, because a politician saying they WILL NOT DO SOMETHING is clearly reliable.

He will build El Triunfo resorts in Mexico that have walls to keep gringo visitors, many of whom voted for him, safe.  They will provide jobs for former immigrants to the United States, as well as Muslims and Cubans. The Mexican government will use its eminent domain powers to dispossess elderly peasants of their land, making the resorts possible. Some of the resorts will go bankrupt due to his corrupt Mexican partners.

Lulz.

I dont think Trump will become President.

But if he does, then i am positive Mexico will pay for it based on Trump's ability to make trade deals.

I asked a racist coworker who supports Trump how he would get Mexico to pay for the wall. I explained that it's impossible to make another country do that.

She said there are ways, and one way is through trade.

I then asked why Trump never gives specifics about his plans, he never says how he'll do something, or explains how it could be done....he just utters bold statements with zero explanation.

She said it wouldn't be a good idea for him to give our enemies the specifics.

I asked if Mexico is our enemy?

She said yes.

I hate that line. If a candidate says that, it means they have no idea what their foreign policy is.

If TRUMP is elected president, I would imagine Mexico would be more than happy to pay for a wall to protect themselves from the North American crazies. Wink

Would Mexico cut a check to cover the cost of a wall? Nope.

Would Mexico end up paying for the wall in some way/shape/form? Yup.

I don't see why this is difficult to understand.

Actually, the number of illegal immigrants coming across the Southern border are less made up of Mexican citizens but citizens of Central America.  Perhaps for Trump's scheme to work he should instead propose a wall be built between Mexico/Belize and Guatemala since many citizens of Central American illegally enter Mexico and then illegally enter USA.  Perhaps Trump should propose that Guatemala pays for this.  It should be cheaper anyway.

The trade deficit with Mexico is $60Bn.

The wall is $10Bn.

I think there is your definition of 'pay'.

In such a case it is the American consumer that will pay.

Trade Deficit? Really stupid you guys are.

Firstly US is also sending 100's of billions of worth exports & Mexico is also sending 100's of billions - 60B is nothing - It's peanuts - May well be positive in a couple of years.

And the US gains because it's consumers are getting goods at rock bottom prices, so otherwise they would have less Purchasing Power, less consumption, lower standard of life & a lower GDP Base.

You will have Trade Surpluses & Deficits - Countries with high wages tend to have deficit as they import products - What about Africa - Where from China to US everyone is exporting Billions?

I guarantee all of your will die before Mexico builds a wall - And if we goes into a trade & tariff war, he is going against the WTO & will drive the economy into recession. I understand you could have better trade deals than NAFTA, but threatening a country to extort money for trade sanctions is a really stupid idea in 2016.

Yeah this is pretty much the classic example of Atlas taking a somewhat funny joke/meme and beating it to death. It got old in about November or thereabouts.
