In yet another sign of Kasich rising, Paul Krugman attacks John Kasich in the NYT. While I generally either agree or respectfully disagree with many of Krugman's opinions, I do think that this piece comes across as pure partisanship!

Let's dispel with this fiction that Kasich is a moderate.

Kasich was chairman of the House Budget Committee and introduced PRWORA, the Clinton-era welfare reform bill.  Here he is standing right next to Newt as Clinton signs the balanced budget.

He was also the second pick, after Jack Kemp, to be Dole's VP in 96, even before the balanced budget passed.  You want to talk pure fantasy?  Going back twenty years and acting like he was some nobody who's inventing a legacy for himself is pure fantasy.

Kasich was considered a mainstream conservative in the 90's. The fact that today he is seen as some kind of moderate to liberal Republican just shows how far to the right his party has gone.

In the 80s and 90s no but in today's political environment yes.

Krugman is a 100% Hillary hack. He whined about those mean Obama supporters in 2008.

Krugman's a partisan, but he's right about this.  Kasich is a privatizer, and he's not going to be honest about this until after the election.

I don't think a top notch Economist like Krugman should denigrate himself to this level by becoming a political hack - I see no reason for a leading economist to attack Kasich.

It only makes Krugman look like a loser & someone who gives every statements through Clinton glasses nowadays & trust me he is quite a decent economist

Doing that would greatly help him in the republican primary.

Agreed.

Actually, he was considered a pretty hard-supply sider on economics. Very much in the Newt Gingrich wing of the 80's-90's GOP rather than the Bob Michael establishment.
