Those knowledgeable about FL politics, let's discuss Rubio's 2018 prospects. First, do you believe he will run for governor? Second, would anyone notable run against him the primary, and if so, who? Third, how would the primary opponent(s) to Rubio be viewed by the party - would they receive heavy backing from important party members, would they be ignored, or would they be seen as showing great disrespect to the former senator and have millions of dollars spent against them - and what would Rubio's chances of primary victory be? And finally, does the FDP have anyone who could beat Rubio in the general in a neutral or Lean R year?

Adam Putnam and Jeff Atwater both want it. Tomas Regalado is a possibility, with his ties to Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and the Miami base.

As for the Democrats, Gwen Graham and Charlie Crist are favorites. Mayor Buddy Dyer of Orlando, Mayor Bob Buckhorn of Tampa, and Mayor Jack Seiler of Fort Lauderdale are the other possibilities.

DeadPrez and other geniuses tells me he is going to run for Governor, so obviously I assume he is not going to do so.

RUBIO ISN'T GOING TO RUN, THERE IS NO ROOM FOR HIM IN THE RACE

I think this is going to be, what, the eighth thread where I've responded to this? Here is the full answer for the last time:

Rubio's initial support came from not being Charlie Crist at just the right moment, not any personal charisma or power base. He is not part of the "Florida Establishment" and won't get their money, organization or support. His entering the race would scare nobody out of it. Adam Putnam and (possibly) Jeff Atwater have been preparing for this race for years; practically all important donors, grassroots organizations, and party leaders have already lined up behind a candidate. Rubio, who has no firm support base, would seriously struggle to maintain a campaign. If he made it to a general election he'd be pretty much equivalent to a Generic R; beatable in the right years but slightly favored overall.

Now stop asking this question.

Rubio is still young and can obviously get back into politics in some way someday in the near future, but 2018 is too soon after the 2016 defeat, and the contest for the 2018 gubernatorial election has already solidified. I think the next race without a clear Republican nominee (2022 if either 2016 Sen/2018 Gov is a Democratic victory, or perhaps later), Rubio can become the front-runner for the Republican nomination without too much trouble as long as he signals his interest early; he'll have a lot of residual name recognition after running a credible presidential campaign, especially if it goes to the convention. But 2018 will be too soon.

Problem for Rubio is that no one is going to step aside from him after doing so poorly in the primary. If he loses his home state to Trump he will not clear the field. Putnam and Bondi seem to both want it and I'm sure others are eyeing it to.

Only hope I can see for him is to challenge Bill Nelson and promise not to run for president in 2020 but instead run for re-election in 2024 if elected. Rick Scott is looking at that race, and if Rubio can run as the anti-Scott, he can probably win. Florida probably feels betrayed by Rubio, and he's going to have an uphil climb to get to a statewide win there again, particularly as governor.

Nah, it won't be that bad. He'll be bartending at the Warsaw Ballroom in Miami. Probably viewed by some twinks as a total DILF.

Run again for the Senate after publicly stating how much he hates being there?

I think you have some unaddressed emotional issues. It can't be healthy to hate a person this much. Especially one who who literally has never done a thing to you.

Meh, I wouldn't kick Rubio out of bed, as long as he's a bottom (as I expect he is.)

Blame the media for shoving him down our throats (no pun intended.)

2018, definitely. The FL GOP hates him for skipping ahead in line and screwing Jeb. Now he's going to do the same thing to Putnam. Now, after Putnam either wins/losses, I can see Rubio coming out of a decade long political exile to run for Governor in 2022/2026. But by then, he'll be 50 something and his whole facade of being "the fresh face" will go away. I'm sure we'll have some newer, more intelligent, less arrogant version of Rubio to run by then.

Well, looks like this is all he can do after his good beating from TRUMP. I hope he gets squashed if he tries.

I've said way meaner things about Rubio, and yet you decided to pick this one to hang up on this one?

I'm sure you've said meaner about candidates you don't like.

If I were him, I would now enter the Senate race. He was a chance to win this one and save his career.

He'd probably lose the primary. Floridians clearly don't like their absentee Senator.
