Come on, guys, the National Guard says only 1 weekend a month, and 2 weeks a year. It's really not much.

It is kind of ironic that i am one of the most anti-war people here yet i'm one of maybe two people on the forum who served.
Cool. When did you serve?

Well, I am to old now and plus I have a growing family. They probably wouldn't take me even if I did try and join. Plus I make almost double what an enlisted private in the Army makes. Why the hell take a pay cut?

Well, yes, I was replying to the pay cut thing. You made it sound like you'd join the army if it was without a pay cut.

I think I'm older than you, but I was recently told by various people I know who are in or involved with the military that I could enter 'military intelligence' as a lieutenant because of my master's degree.  I find this very hard to believe - I mean I think I'm old... but apparently they're desperate.

I would certainly consider it if I could be guaranteed a posting to the Far East and a few months off per year! Smiley

Same here.

I actually was really interested in going into the Armed Forces as an officer after college but they won't take me because I am not correctable to 20/20 vision.

I thought 20/20 was just for pilots.

jfern, add an option "I'm handicapped" next time (not that I'm handicapped, just saying).

Anyway, option 4.

Yes, that would be good since I myself am handicapped. I am epileptic, which pisses me off since I wanted to join the ROTC.

I'm 48. I don't think they would want me in the armed forces. I did, however, join the Navy in 1974 at the age of eighteen. I served from 1974-79. Helped me go to college. I couldn't afford it otherwise. Now, I live a good life and live quite comfortably. My prior service helped me to arrive where I am today. If I didn't serve I might have the view that the armed services are only for those who have been brainwashed by the far right and be angry at all those pro-capitalist out there who are only helping the rich because I was too lazy to help myself. Besides, I want my government to take care of all my needs. I would then be, well, jfern.

There was no option for me, so none of the above.

15 years over the enlistment max age you are TX.

I voted anti-war.  I remember being about an hour from SF when all the buildup was going on.  I remember being pretty anti-protest as well, you'll recall.  I still don't understand how throwing a newspaper stand through a korean store owner's store window helps the people of Iraq.

I wish there was an option for "still abjectly anti-war, but don't get me confused with those violent leftist anti-war types."  Actually, there was a pretty good article in the SFgate about SF republicans against the war, and how the manifestations of their antiwar mentality were decidedly different than the childish and often damaging manifestations of the anti-bush antiwar crowd.

They let foreigners join. That should be enough for the pro-war people.

Most of the millions who protested were not violent. Stereotype much? There were at least a quarter million peaceful protestors in SF (including me). I didn't see anyone who was violent. How do you know that the person who threw the newspaper stand wasn't just trying to make the anti-war people look bad?

Are those 100 injured Iraqi policemen that were injured in the bomb blast a few day ago from Peoria?
