Glorious news! Hopefully it escalates, the Trumpeters get their asses handed to them and this dynamic occurs wherever Trump goes.

This type of crazy behavior will encourage the IL Republicans to run to the polls. Don't be naive.

Republicans in the Chicago suburbs aren't crazy; the head of the Cook County GOP just endorsed Kasich. These are pearl-clutching upper middle class white suburbanites; they're terrified of a repeat of Detroit '67 in Chicago, which is what will happen if Trump is nominated.

Good riddance. Quite frankly, these 'protestors' contribute nothing to America besides this mindless violence. Hopefully, TRUMP will deport them before they can do too much damage.

Have you seen how crazy Republican voters are? Of course it will help in the primary. Fortunately, this will hurt Trump with the general electorate.

I'll go against the consensus here.  This, along with Trump's campaign manager being charged with assault, plays directly into one of the main narratives against Trump (that his ideology is violent and divisive).

Maybe this doesn't hurt him in the primaries, but it sure as hell hurts him in the GE.

His campaign has been declared finished time and time again, but yet it hasn't ended yet. This will not end Trump's campaign, not by a long shot.

This goes beyond the realm of politics, dude. We've never seen anything like this.

I have no problem with peaceful protest, but these angry little children are not peacefully protesting. They sneak into rallies, they cause a scene, and then they cross their fingers that they provoke someone into punching them so that they can post a picture of their bloodied face on Instagram and play the martyr. You can't shut down a politician's rally with threats of violence just because you disagree with him or her.

I'm sick of hearing about these protests. There seems to be one every single day this past year, a protest about every single thing, literally. It is getting old.

You guys know nothing about real protests. In Mexico, if parents at some nursery school are unhappy about a nanny, they close off the main street of a town for a few hours. It is considered normal to capture a few intercity buses to use them to take the protesters to another town. Every year after the university entrance exams those rejected close off the main arteries of Mexico City - if we are lucky, just for a few days. Losing candidates have been known to cut off the main avenue of the capital for, say, 3 months over a few dozen blocks. The only day in the year when Mexico City does not have 3 or 4 protests (at least couple of them closing off a few major streets for a few hours) is Christmas.

Just because we've never seen it doesn't mean that Trump's campaign is over. It seems like people would have learned their lesson about making these declarations. He was supposed to have faded long before the first contest, yet he is still here.

Uh, this is a signal that civil society will break down if Trump is nominated. If you want to return to Detroit '67, then nominate Trump. He's simply unacceptable in modern America.

As with many things in the past this probably helps him with his base of non college Republicans and hurts him with more moderate/mainstream college Republicans.  Hard to say how that nets out for the primary, especially in Illinois.

If this becomes a regular thing at Trump events and if there is more violence, then it will not help him with moderate general election voters.

Trump knew the kind of reaction his rally would stir up on one of the largest and most diverse state universities in Illinois, in a heavily minority neighborhood in an ultra-liberal city, after 10 months of non-stop verbal violence and hatemongering against minorities.

The point was to get a reaction so he could play the victim card and preach law and order 4 days before a major Republican primary. And he got it!

There is nothing surprising about this.

I don't know if it will hurt or help, but he brought this on himself. Shame on him.
Good for the protesters, not for forcing the cancelling of the event, but for protesting him.
He has been preaching hate, clearly.
