A mixture. It's definitely got a better interface, the more exclusive member pool means there are less dumbarses and a lot of the content is better. That said the original purpose of AAD - a free speech, no rules board to interact with banned posters was hilariously stupid - we quickly found out that there was a reason people like Ziggy, Jamfist and the evil ballet dancer were banned (the only 'banned posters' worth talking to are politicus, Hamilton, Sawx and maybe tweed).

And the fact that AAD became launching pad for a gay rumour about Rubio that is now latched on to across the Right Conspiracy Wing (often directly referencing the memes, pastebins and reddit posts we initially spread) really amuses me.

While I get CNN international and Fox News down here and while I can certainly peruse the internet for news, the reality is that I'm not constantly saturated by the American news media. Actually, for the past 8 or 9 years, the Atlas forum has been my main source of analysis for US politics.

The fact is that for the past 8 months or so if I had just read this forum I would be constantly baffled by this election, results and campaign events would come as a complete surprise and if anyone asked for my opinion I would have certainly given them wrong information. I mean, I would have thought that trump's opponents did better in debates than they actually did, I would have thought that the McCain comments would sink his campaign, etc, etc.

Reading AAD gave a much more accurate picture of how the election was developing and provided a better understanding of the electorate and the Trump phenomenon. For a political junkie this seems to be a pretty important aspect.

Plus it's more fun, this place seems to be completely devoid of humor most of the time.
