Happy Pi Day!

Yay! Today is Pi Day! Let's celebrate math.

Oddly, google doesn't have a pi day theme on it's banner.  It's so weird, because even on such arcane occasions as Nikola Tesla's birthday or the 57th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs they have those, but not on Pi Day.  And today, being 3/14/16 is a very special Pi Day.  The company Google has a name resulting from a misspelling of a number, and not just any number, but a number picked specifically to signify that the search engine could provide large quantities of information.  Yet that company, which celebrates all manner of arcane events, does not have a Pi Day banner.

It's such a shame April doesn't have a 31st day. Would have made the perfect punchline for a joke based on the difference between American and European date notations.

But it has a 20th day, which is a better joke.  You can call it 20/4 if you want, but we like to call it 4/20.

It is certainly important to know who is writing dates.  If a gringo writes 01-04-05, it means the fourth of January 2004.  If a German writes 01-04-05, it means the first of April 2005.  If a Chinese person writes 01-04-05, it means the fifth of April 2001. 

It's all good.  Pi Day is still Pi day, no matter how your write it, and it happens on the 14th of March.  Mole Day, by the way, happens on the 23rd of October.  Of course if you write those dates the gringo way it makes more sense.
