I kind of thought this could happen, which was why I had hoped Rick Perry would hold on and get that tenth podium at the first GOP debate. That would have relegated Kasih to the also-ran category.

I agree with whitesox for the most part, him beating Perry for that spot in the first debate is what propelled him along with Kasich's 2nd place finish in NH. Kasich shouldn't have been the one in right now, it was supposed to be Jeb.

Definitely. After that one Frank Luntz focus group that was super anti-Kasich, along with the incessant fanboying on Atlas, I was pretty convinced he'd be out after New Hampshire. I stand corrected.

Unexpected... but Kasich deserves it ahead of those bumbling unfocused lightweights.

I feel vindicated by this outcome. Even if Kasich doesn't turn out to be nominee material he's more durable than others thought vs. the wannabe Prince Bush III and 'lil Marco the inexperienced and unaccomplished.

Trump didn't target him.

On the contrary - Trump did target him several times (Ohio got lucky and struck oil, Lehman Bros, absentee governor, etc.) but you can't mudwrestle with an opponent who refuses to get into the mud. Rubio, Bush and even Cruz to some extent were naive enough to get onto Trump's terrain and all lost. Kasich gave him the cold shoulder and Trump does not know how to handle someone like that!

My projection all along has been that Kasich will be Trump's final challenger and you will see that in the next couple of months. Tomorrow when I have more time, I will discuss this in more detail!
