Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will not participate in Monday's Fox News debate, and will instead speak at AIPAC.

“I’m doing a major speech in front of a very important group of people that night," Trump said on "Fox & Friends."

He added that the Republican candidates have had enough primetime debates. "I think it's enough," he said.

Well, he's right about one thing. There have been enough debates right now.

Good decision. The last few debates have added precisely nothing to the race.

Agreed. If you don't know a candidate's positions and temperament by now, you haven't been paying attention.

He's smart enough to realize that with a smaller pool it'll be much more difficult to continue not actually answering the questions. And yes, there have been an almost ridiculous number of debates.

If they decide to have the debate anyway, I could see it possibly boosting Kasich a bit, as he'd actually get decent screen time. Will they do the debate if it's just Cruz and Kasich?

Hopefully.  With only two people it would actually be a debate.  Especially if neither of two people is Donald Trump.

This might give the impression he is trying to run out the clock.

BTW, he also  warned of “riots” if power-brokers deny him the nomination at the convention even if he's leading in the delegate count.

He looks like he has enough of a stranglehold on the nomination that he can get away with this. Furthermore, as has been noted, the less people there are, the harder it is for him to get away with his lack of knowledge on subjects with hardline bluster and general Trumpiness.

Besides, Kasich shouldn't even be there; he's been mathematically eliminated from securing the nomination without contested convention shenanigans.

Cruz and Kasich should debate anyway, spending all their time talking about Trump.  After each answer, Megyn Kelly should say "Thank you for your answer.  Mr. Trump, your name was mentioned, so you have 30 seconds to respond."  Then the camera pans over to an empty podium, and we get 30 seconds of pure silence while everyone stares at the empty podium.

So Cruz will debate himself ?

Good decision. The last few debates have added precisely nothing to the race.

Because Trump doesn't allow anyone else to speak (instead just interrupting every candidate all the time); and he turns the whole thing into a barrage of insults and BIG statements with zero substance behind them, never once offering any kind of actual plan as to how he would get anything done.

So what Trump's saying is that not only is he an ignorant, arrogant, egotistical, lying, bigoted, fascist wanna-be, but that he also can't learn from experience.

On the contrary, the non-TRUMP candidates have probably spoken more in the last few debates. Or at least have made more memorable lines.

And when he doesn't show up at the convention with a majority of delegates, the fact that he skipped two debates will be used as one more nail in the coffin of why he shouldn't be the nominee. "Donald doesn't care about the party, just his own ego." Or something like that.

But he's gonna force another nation pay for our wall, so who cares about all that?

We will be winning all the time pretty soon; we're going to get bored with all the winning we do.

I understand why he is doing it (he has nothing substantial to say and with Rubio gone, so are his options for creating Reality TV) but, just like in Iowa, this will ultimately backfire on him.  People do listen to debates and without Trump, they will hear Kasich and Cruz lay out detailed plans and invariably compare them to Trump's lack of any.

So good move on Trump, since he has nothing to gain from debates (until he stops being lazy and starts studying the issues), but a loss for him overall nonetheless!

No way. Have you watched any of the debates? Trump literally does not allow other candidates to fully speak before he butts in with little "oh please's" or degrading someone with insulting nicknames.

When he isn't bragging about the size of his penis anyway.

How presidential.

Absolutely.

How many debates have they done, and the American people are still so ignorant about him and are unable see that he never lays out any detailed plans, just broad statement designed to become a soundbite?

Presidential candidates of course don't generally win on "detailed plans"; they win on slogans, soundbites and image. Reagan's "Morning in America", Obama's "Hope and Change" etc.

A minor difference, of course, is that, unlike Reagan and Obama, Trump doesn't actually know anything.
