Supposing you had to live in one of these places, which one would it be. What's the connection, you say (besides that yours truly has been to all of them, besides that), well good luck figuring out that one.

I think I actually drove through Buena Vista last year while working my way through the Blue Ridge Mountains. That area is truly beautiful and it's no contest between the other 3 choices here.

Though I'd have to buy a boat because apparently flooding is an issue in that area. Also, a jumbo prescription of xanax to keep me calm as I deal with uber conservatives day-in and day-out with not a single liberal in sight Sad

Actually, Lexington is right next door and it's a liberal bastion. And Roanoke and Charlottesville aren't far out of reach either.

This connection is pretty obvious, isn't it?

Rexburg is the only one of these places I've been to. It's in the middle of some very pretty territory. One of my dad's old professors at Utah State is at BYU-Idaho now, or at least was when I was there seven years ago. I don't think I'd want to live there, though.

I didn't know there was a Mormon enclave in Virginia.

Probably Buena Vista. I would prefer the place with diversity of creed so I don't feel like an outsider relative to a monogamous group, which Rexburg and Provo decidedly lack. I would probably prefer SLC to Provo within UT.

I voted for Buena Vista as Laie is too geographically isolated.

1 Laie - Hawaii? Sure.
2 Buena Vista - not in the Jello Belt, but not Hawaii
3 Provo - at least it’s bigger than Rexburg
4 Rexburg - ...

Buena Vista. I wouldn't wanna live in Hawaii just cause of how far it is from anything else. I've been to Rexburg and it's definitely no place I'd ever consider living. Provo's probably a little better since it's close to Salt Lake.

1. Provo (I'm familiar with it already, so it's not too difficult of a choice - also, it's the largest, and closest to other cities.)
2. Rexburg (Seems like a reasonably nice town. Not much more to say about it.)
3. Buena Vista (My mother actually briefly went to college there. Honestly though, it really seems like just another one of those tragically dead American small towns, full of abandoned houses, abandoned businesses, and abandoned hope.)
4. Laie (Hawaii is just so far from everywhere. Not the place I'd want to be.)

For anyone who hasn't found the connection yet, they're places with LDS universities. Brigham Young University, Brigham Young University-Idaho, Southern Virginia University, Brigham Young University-Hawaii.

Laie because muh Hawaii.

By the way, Provo means "I try" in Italian. I always find that city so funny because of this.
