Hold your arm straight outwards, palm up, and touch your thumb and pinky finger together. Do you see a tendon popping out of your wrist?

If so, you have a palmaris longus tendon. It is as useless and ugly as you are, but luckily can also be easily ignored and discarded. It is maintained, but not loved - just quietly resented by its surrounds.

If it makes you feel any better, I too am holding back human progress with my useless tendon.

Sorry, didn't mean to be ableist. Perhaps try having a loved one slice open your arm?

I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but I can't see it when I try.

I do seem to have one, much smaller than the picture. I wonder what evolutionary purpose it served?

I have one, and I do mean one.  The other one probably either got severed when I broke my arms a decade ago or was used to repair damage in that arm as it broke near the wrist.

I don't.  Sorry to see so many of you will soon be falling off of the evolutionary tree.

I have a palmaris longus in both arms, but I grew no dens sapientiae. If I had my choice of which vestigial anatomical parts to skip, I would definitely go without the dens sapientiae and avoid the usual associated pain.

As someone who's in the opposite situation, yeah, definitely.

Only in my right arm, from what I can tell. That's interesting because my dad only has it in his left and my mom in both arms.

It's interesting that it can be used to repair bone structure. That looks like a fighting or eating stance to me.

Apparently I have a big one in my right arm, but absolutely no trace of one in my left arm.  Maybe I need to start working out my left arm more.
