For someone wanting to win at a contested convention, he sure doesn't seem to have a clue.

Kasich sometimes forgets he's in a campaign and says things that aren't focused tested soundbytes.
Why wouldn't any rational person "take a look at" every qualified applicant and see if they line up with philosophically?

So the Establishment wants to give it voters a choice between Hillary Clinton and John Kasich?
Come to think of it They could actually be a ticket in anyother election year.

Actually, in most other election years they would define the opposite ideological limits of what is possible. They are, most certainly, much further apart than has been common for Democratic and Republican nominees in the past. May be, Johnson/Goldwater would be the last time the gap was greater.

It is a testimony to how crazy this election year is that you even thought of writing something like what your wrote.

Kasich by comparsion to Cruz or Trump is closer to Hillary who just recently had to tilt more to the left because her party has become the American socialist party.

Yeah the American Socialist party where the leading candidate is running on NOT moving towards universal health care. I love seeing the democrats called socialists, when you've got Sanders supporters calling Hillary a 'far right' corporate shrill

Won't help him in the primary, but this just confirms that the next President of the United States will literally only either be Hillary Clinton or John Kasich.

At least he gives cover for the 6 Blue state GOPers facing reelection including Graasley. But, Kasich is a maverick and say kind things to less polarize politics. Wish he wouldnt have signed those anti union legislation, that hurts Portman's chances.

Given that Hillary will probably win, the Pubs should really process the Garland nomination, and confirm him if it goes well. I suppose they could stall until it gets closer to the election, to confirm that Trump is DOA, but Hillary will pick someone less to the Pub's liking, and the Dems might well have control of the Senate.

RBG seat will be up soon, if the GOP is confident Trump will win, they should confirm Garland. Its only a matter of time. But, in a 4th yr Trump term and he is up for reelection, not to say this is going to happen, Dems will do same thing.

How come Kasich is held to a different standard than the Donald is? If Trump said the same thing, that he'd nominate Merrick Garland,  the attitude and response is "whatever" or he's appealing to Democrats. Kasich is giving an opinion and what of it? It's this strict  ideological straitjacket that both parties are trapped in, which is the reason why America is up the creek without a paddle and people wonder why there is gridlock!

What is so wrong about giving Merrick Garland a hearing at least? We don't need to confirm him, and he's probably the best we can get from Obama.

This is why Kasich never had a chance. He's far too reasonable to win a Republican primary.

This is what I'm thinking, too. The Republicans seem like 3 distinct parties right now--and that's not even including any possible libertarian vote they consistently alienate (hi, guys!)--I'm just having a very hard time imagining how anyone with an R next to their name could get enough of all three factions (est./mod., tea party/evangelical, and the Trumpists) considering that two of the factions will most likely hate them.

You have three candidates, and whichever one you go with will lead to significant backlash. Yeah, Hillary has major weaknesses, but I seriously doubt she'll have a tenth of the backlash will see in the GOP camp this summer.

As much as I dislike the prospect of Hillary becoming President, it's more likely that not she will. And when that happens, I'm afraid we'll see people who make ol' Merrick here look like Antonin Scalia.
