It varies.  If they're also into politics, I talk about it with them, but if they're not, then I won't.  I also talk to them about food, travel, pets, television, plans for future, other things.

Anything, but sports is probably #1, and politics #2.  Just telling stories has to be up there as well.

It really depends which friend(s) I'm talking to, but in general (and no specific order), these are the most common:

1. Politics/government/policy

2. Tech/science stuff

3. Relationships/gossip/drama Cheesy

4. Current events in the world (I think my friends and I talk about this stuff probably more often than the average joe)

5. Sometimes entertainment (movies/tv/etc) stuff

6. 2 of my friends currently work in the field I used to, so we do discuss work-stuff and brainstorm/debug stuff together over the phone at least once a week it seems like now.

I'm more of a introverted wonk so while the above are hardly the bulk of what I talk about, those are the most common categories

Friends? What are these friends you speak of?

1. Basketball
2. Country music
3. Fashion
4. Morality (often me talking at them Tongue)
5. Gossip is often talked at me, but I don't particularly care
6. I play a satirical nutjob in real life just like I do here (or maybe I am just a nut! But I do enjoy my role entertaining regardless of that.)
7. Schools and academic progression (I'm the go-to advice giver on that, which is probably not always a good thing because #6 Tongue)

Typically, the friendships are more about doing things than talking though. Singing in the car together, playing sport aggressively, even watching tv.

Oh yeah, yeah -- not meant to be a critique, that's quite true. I just don't really text much except for dire news.

As Virginia said, it obviously varies a lot from the friend. Those are the most common though (in approximate ranking):

1. University life and work.
2. Politics and current events (with varying nuances of nerdiness depending on the interlocutor).
3. Venting about my personal problems and insecurities (or, more rarely, trying to listen to theirs).
4. Movies and TV.
5. Philosophy and morality.

Room for three in your "Introverted friendship circle"?

Or do you not see the solution?

I often joke about what a policy nerd I am (using Atlas, of course) but it's usually either what's going on in our daily lives or stupid stuff like "whether you can lose something you never found."

Just imagine trying to talk with your RL friends in the Atlas dialect:

"Do you think Trump can do better among Blacks than any other Republican?"

"Have you heard about the 272 freiwall?"

"Doesn't Ted Cruz looks like a serial killer?"

"Do you think this map is an accurate prediction for November?"

"Let's have fun and predict percentage in Idaho caucus!"

"What is your opinion of Tender Branson?"

I know a lot of people IRL who think Cruz looks like a serial killer.
