Another political career bites the dust for something that should be an obvious no-no.

Bentley's career was already over because he was a pretty weak Governor of Alabama, even by Governor of Alabama standards where George Fing Wallace is the gold standard.

Great, another sleazbag.

But here's the thing: Our country cares more about these type of B.S. stories instead of the issues. It's time to move on, America.

To be honest, Adultery is a pretty despicable action, especially for those claiming to be some sort of Christian (I don't care how liberal you are, the 10 commandments are the 10 commandments, and it literally says "thou shalt not commit adultery".) (Bentley is Baptist). Even if you're not religious, the fact still remains that the wording of most marriage vows calls for devotion "until death". Committing adultery is hardly maintaining that devotion (provided you don't have prior permission from your spouse).

Obviously making adultery illegal is unrealistic (What are we supposed to do to enforce it, ultra-theocrats? Abolish the 4th amendment so that Police can arbitrarily search through homes for adulterers?), but that doesn't mean we should be voting adulterers into office.

He's termed out and it's not likely he would move up since Shelby and Sessions are not leaving any time soon. Not really a big deal.

Clearly, it is wrong, but it doesn't automatically mean someone isn't fit to be a political leader. However, if it's like Berlusconi-levels of adultery or a situation like John Ensign's, where he broke the law as a result of his stupidity, then they should resign, yes.

Highlight recordings from the Alabama Casanova:

"You kiss me. I love that. You know I do love that.”
“You know what, when I stand behind you and I put my arms around you, and I put my hands on your breasts, and I put my hands on you [unintelligible] and pull you real close...”
“Hey, I love that too, putting my hands under you.”
“Oh, great. I think about that right now, so let’s do it.”
“Yeah, I could tell you were thinking about—I could tell you were thinking about it last night.”
“It’s okay, everything is going to be fine. We’re going to be alright this week.”
“I love you. I love to talk to you. I do.”
“But baby, lemme tell you what we’re gonna have to do tonight: Start locking the door. If we’re gonna do what we did the other day, we’re gonna have to start locking the door.”

I read that timeline every time it is updated for 2 reasons: 1) It is really detailed and well-done 2) I really want to know who wins that race!!!

...and another family values sanctity of marriage hypocrite bites the dust.

In fairness, this was just phone sex, which, granted, I'm sure is seriously frowned upon in the heart of the Bible Belt, but it was just verbal sex, not physical sex.

Waiting for the Republicans to blame the gays having the right to marry for the cause of this "affair."

"See, we told you! The homosexual perverts getting married was going to destroy the sanctity of our marriages!"

I have noticed that it's much easier for a right-wing family values hypocrite to survive a sex scandal that it's for a Democrat.

It's alright guys, he'll just pray for forgiveness a lot of times and thus make himself immune from criticism. We're all sinful human beings after all.

The accusations and (near) proof of this has been out in the open for at least six months. These recordings are new, but it was widely all but known that he had an affair and that's why his wife filed for divorce. He made it emphatically clear when it hit that he wouldn't be resigning. Of course, things can change.
