part of democracy is blocking candidates and/or parties who would dismantle democracy Smiley

Meh, blocking one fascist with another, smarter fascist isn't really that helpful.

eh. zodiac is terrible in plenty of other areas, but he wouldn't actually destroy the democratic system

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Cruz is an ayatollah-type

Here is another question. If the majority of the delegates are die-hard Cruz and TRUMP people then how possible is it that they accept the establishment's choice to essentially void the primaries and try to impose someone like Ryan as the "compromise" nominee?

If Trump loses the convention like this I don't see him not running third party. He would ride the ensuing anger and milk it for all its worth in the general.

A scam. The other candidates should actually get out, since they have no (democratic; with a small d) path to the nomination and support TRUMP. The victoty is already Donald's!

I think you will find that these delegates will still all go to Trump.

The implications of Trump missing out on the nomination when he is close to 1237 will cause the Universe itself to tear apart.

Electrons will disassociate from their respective protons, and the fabric of reality will dissolve if Trump has a plurality of votes yet is cheated out of the nomination by 'Lyin' Ted'.

To keep the peace, the republican delegates will be pretty keen to make sure that Donald does not fly off as an independent.

That result would hand the Presidency to Hillary Clinton for 8 years.

Stranger things have happened.

Stranger things than the Universe tearing itself apart?  No, I don't think stranger things than that have happened.

While I appreciate the hilarity factor I consider it quite awful in principle. It only shows how unrepresentative the delegate system is.

This reminds me of a proposal Hale Boggs made after 1968 election, when there was a case of faithless elector in Tennessee: retaining electoral college but without electors. Simply assinging the number to a winner. It could be a good idea in primaries.

*bump*

Cruz and Kasich are also working the South Carolina delegation, all of whom will have to vote for Trump on the first ballot, but would be free to defect on subsequent ballots:

This is exactly how Trump will have the nomination snatched from him right under his nose; it won't be the party establishment, but Lyin' Ted that will take it from him

Ted will have the Establishment's full support in this endeavor.

I am predicting that Cruz will edge out Trump at the convention in the narrowest possible fashion.  It will be "Winning Ugly", but it will the best of all possible outcomes for those who have been vested in the GOP on an ongoing basis.

Yeah but what about if/when Trump wages a write-in campaign and dedicates himself to attacking "Lyin' Ted" Cruz? With relatively little effort he ensures that Cruz will never be President. Out of spite. Because why not.

It's won't be like the GOP was going to win WITH the sniveling coward at the top of the ticket anyway. And with Cruz on top and getting creamed the "establishment" GOP can 1) neutralize Cruz in future presidential primaries, and 2) finally tell the social conservatives, religious nuts, and Tea Party, "We ran your real conservative and gave him all our support and he still lost".

Intersting tweet from WSJ reporter, showing how outclassed Trump's campaign is vs. Cruz in this inside baseball game of delegate selection.
